Job Description

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Care Centers, and in collaboration with the physicians and other clinical staff in UCSF's Cardiology Clinics, the Clinical Nurse 2 is responsible for providing safe, efficient nursing care to patients in the UCSF Stanyan outpatient Multispecialty practice. Triage patients and responds appropriately according to protocol and nursing assessment. The Clinical Nurse 2 utilizes the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation) to provide safe and therapeutic clinical care.

The Clinical Nurse 2 also provides clinical support to Providers and participates as part of the health care team to assure coordination and continuity of patient care.

Performs nursing activities as ordered by the physician, including electrocardiograms, and intravenous insertion administration of cardiac ultrasound enhancing contrast.

The Clinical Nurse 2 is responsible for triage on behalf of the practice both in person/video and through telephone and electronic communication such as in-basket messaging and any other electronic communication portal.

The Clinical Nurse 2 participates in the development and implementation of educational programs and materials for patients and their family members.

The Clinical Nurse 2 will play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment.

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for daily clinical operations and maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.

The Clinical Nurse 2 consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor, helps establish and maintain the highest service standards for the practice and complies with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards. This employee will utilize computer skills in Apex and other UCSF computerized programs.

This individual supports the standards of the policies and procedures of the practice and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration and complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice.

Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of one (1) year recent experience as a Registered Nurse in Ambulatory Cardiology and/or related RN experience in an Ambulatory Clinic; including telephone triage and in-basket messaging with patients.
• Minimum of one (1) year recent experience of cardiac telemetry, pacemaker and cardiac device nursing care or equivalent.
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strongly preferred minimum of one year experience in Cardiology.
• Recent Experience in the use of Electronic Medical Record documentation.
• Adult, and Geriatrics preferred.
• Ability to work competently and efficiently with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Work

Licenses/Certifications:

• Registered Nurse as defined by California Board of Registered Nursing
• Current CA Nursing license
• Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.

Salary Information

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
