Overview

The Bilingual Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating the nutritional component as part of healthcare services to patients at Marin Community Clinics’. The RD complies with all standards of practice per licensing for Registered Dietitians. The RD provides Medical Nutrition Therapy per medical provider diagnosis and referral, teaches group classes, and leads clinic quality in terms of clinic wide nutrition handouts/related updates.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • May provide individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients in Marin Community Clinics O.B. program (Sweet Success). The MNT includes all required components: Subjective, objective, assessment plan based on medical provider diagnosis and referral.
  • May confer with medical providers, behavioral health therapists, CPSP case managers, on patient care.
  • Shares critical patient information.
  • Participates in the patient care team.
  • Documents MNT patient visits into the electronic medical record in compliance with all standards and rules regarding Medical Nutrition Therapy.
  • Develops, updates, and researches nutrition education materials. Presents these materials to the providers and others in clinic as needed to ensure consistent nutrition messages to the patients.
  • Role models and utilizes motivational interviewing and patient centered counseling techniques.
  • Ensures the patient is always at the center of nutrition care and intervention.
  • Provides group nutrition and health education for the diabetes group and other groups as needed.
  • Participates in health fair activities in the local community; Provides consultation to and works with community groups.
  • Conducts or participates in in-service education and consultation with professional staff and supporting personnel of MCC and related organizations.
  • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives. Continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards.
  • As appropriate, participates in specific health promotions, education and/or prevention programs.
  • Attends medical staff meetings and general staff meetings.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with staff and patients.
  • Assists in the coordination and integration of all health clinic outreach programs as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve clinic goals and objectives, as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from the American Dietetic Association (ADA) accredited program.
  • Must have National certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Must maintain CEUs as required for certification renewals.
  • Ability to learn and utilize effectively the electronic medical records and charting system (EPIC)

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective communication ability in English.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English highly desired.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computers and Windows environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Fullfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and prolonged periods sitting at desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times and move medical equipment.
  • Fine motor hand movements typical of performing standard RD job duties.
  • Able to read charts graphs and readings on medical equipment.
  • While most work performed in clinic, may occasionally work outdoors and in inclement weather.
