Responsibilities

  • Review customer complaints and assign them to the appropriate SQF practitioner or Quality Supervisor.
  • Update the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) program as necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Communicate updates to the SQF program to ensure organizational adherence.
  • Train and audit shell egg processing, food safety, and quality protocols under the SQF and HACCP standards.
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections of processing facilities and customer distribution centers.
  • Prepare effective reports on findings and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Provide training and necessary resources to support team members in quality assurance roles.

Full Job Description
Role Description/Summary

This position is responsible for implementing and overseeing the Safe Quality Foods program, ensuring USDA rules are

followed, and programs related to customer quality requirements. This position also supervises SQF practitioners and

Quality department team members.

Essential Job Functions - Must be able to perform these tasks with or without reasonable accommodations.

1. Review customer complaints and delegate to appropriate SQF practitioner and/or Quality Supervisor.

2. Update the program as needed based on SQF requirements.

3. Communicate and ensure compliance with any updated program editions.

4. Responsible for oversight, training, orientation, and auditing of all shell egg processing, food safety, and quality GMPs and HACCP program requirements.

5. Maintain, verify, validate and amend plant food safety and quality programs as necessary.

6. Evaluate activities related to the food safety and quality program to determine their validity and reliability.

7. Conduct internal audits of Opal processing facilities.

8. Inspect customer distribution centers as related to our products per their requested schedule.

9. Must be able to write effective and accurate reports of findings and recommendations and inform necessary persons/departments with corrective actions to be taken.

10. Ensure samples are gathered and shipped for nutritionally enhanced products per customer requirements.

11. Maintain the processing environmental monitoring program.

12. Interview and select team members for open positions within the quality department.

13. Work with outside auditing bodies to create audit schedules and assist processing plants in preparing for audits.

14. Provide training and assistance to departments related to assigned areas of responsibility.

15. Train management and employees in relation to food safety and quality ensuring in in-depth understanding of programs.

16. Provide necessary resources and support to team members.

17. Support members of Processing and QC in the application and or monitoring of the food safety and quality rules.

18. Responsible for timecard review and team member performance management.

19. Manage SQF Practitioners and provide FSQ guidance to Operations team members.

Required Qualifications - Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

1. Bachelor's degree related to food processing, food safety or related topic or equivalent experience in the food processing industry.

2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and demonstrated ability to learn various others.

3. Demonstrated ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English.

4. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage team members including strong communication skills.

5. Must possess or have the ability to obtain SQF Certification and HACCP Certification.

6. Must be reliable and responsible, and demonstrate high levels of attention to detail.

7. Must be self-motivated and willing to take on new responsibilities.

8. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable.

9. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead high-functioning teams.

10. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and deal with stressful situations.

11. Capable of working weekend shifts and maintaining a flexible schedule to help other departments should they need assistance on a particular day. This may include working nights, and holidays.

12. Capable of working late (if needed) past the scheduled leave time to complete the job.

13. Travel to other locations if needed.

Preferred Qualifications - Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

1. Additional training and certification in farm operations, food manufacturing procedures, or experience in relevant field.
