A Brief Overview

The Regional Global Practice Manager provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and business direction for Burns & McDonnell's California Aviation & Federal practice. This executive leader is responsible for the overall performance, growth, and development of a multidisciplinary engineering and construction organization serving commercial aviation, airport, and federal clients throughout California and the Western United States.

Leading a team of 60 engineering and construction professionals, this role is responsible for establishing the vision for the practice while ensuring operational excellence across project execution, resource management, financial performance, quality, and employee development. The A&F Regional Global Practice Manager fosters a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and client service while developing future leaders and supporting the continued growth of the practice.

In addition to leading operations, this individual serves as a strategic market leader, building executive-level client relationships and partnering with business development and construction leadership to expand Burns & McDonnell's presence across the aviation and federal markets. The Regional Global Practice Manager plays a key role in identifying and pursuing integrated engineering, design-build opportunities, helping clients successfully move projects from planning and design through construction.

Responsibilities

Practice Leadership
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Burns & McDonnell's California Aviation & Federal practice, establishing the vision, priorities, and long-term growth strategy for the business.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering and construction organization supporting commercial aviation, airport, federal, and Department of the Navy facility and infrastructure projects.
  • Drive operational excellence across project delivery, staffing, resource planning, financial performance, quality, and employee engagement.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing employee-owners while building a strong leadership pipeline and supporting succession planning.
  • Foster collaboration across engineering, construction, environmental, and other technical disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
  • Communicate organizational goals, business priorities, and strategic initiatives while promoting Burns & McDonnell's culture of employee ownership, collaboration, and client service.

Business Growth & Client Development
  • Develop and execute long-term business strategies that expand Burns & McDonnell's presence within California's aviation and federal markets.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with airport authorities, commercial aviation clients, federal agencies, and Department of the Navy stakeholders.
  • Partner with regional and national business development teams and construction leadership to identify, pursue, and secure engineering, design-build, and EPC opportunities.
  • Lead major pursuits, proposal strategies, contract negotiations, and interview presentations for complex, high-profile programs.
  • Achieve annual sales, revenue, profitability, and backlog objectives while ensuring sustainable growth of the practice.

Project & Financial Leadership
  • Ensure successful execution of projects by meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule, budget, safety, and technical excellence.
  • Oversee project portfolio performance and provide guidance to project managers and engineering leaders to mitigate risk and maximize client satisfaction.
  • Present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic updates to executive leadership while ensuring responsible fiscal management of the practice.
  • Maintain compliance with Burns & McDonnell's Quality Control Program, Safety Program, and all applicable company policies and Equal Employment Opportunity initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field from an accredited program and 10 years of relevant consulting or project management experience required, preferably within the engineering industry.
  • Candidates with 20 years of leadership experience supporting the aviation and federal markets are strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with EPC experience in these markets are strongly preferred.
  • Expert experience in client and business development.
  • Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.

Compensation

$300,000.00-650,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
