Position Summary

The Regional Director of Palliative Care is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Regional Director of Palliative Care provides leadership, strategic planning, and oversight for the development, implementation, and evaluation of palliative care services in a specific geographic area. S/he is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality palliative care to patients while collaborating with clinical team members, administrators, and community organizations. This role requires expertise in palliative care principles, program development and management, staff supervision, collaboration, quality assurance, education, and documentation. S/he serves as an advocate for palliative care, promotes interdisciplinary teamwork, and contributes to the advancement of palliative care knowledge and practices

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a strategic vision for palliative care services in the region.
    • Identifies growth opportunities, such as partnerships with healthcare organizations, community outreach initiatives, and new service offerings.
    • Establishes goals and objectives to enhance the quality and accessibility of palliative care.
    • Provides leadership to interdisciplinary teams and promotes collaboration among healthcare providers.
    • Collaborates with healthcare organizations to integrate palliative care into existing services.
    • Participates in the selection, training, and supervision of palliative team members. This includes performance evaluation, merit increases, and disciplinary actions.
    • Manages and monitors the productivity of nurse practitioners (NPs) who are part of the palliative care team.
    • Evaluates program effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvement to assure service differentiation and competitive advantage.
    • Verifies compliance with palliative care billing and coding processes. Builds and maintains relationships with community organizations, hospices, and other stakeholders to coordinate care and support services.
    • Ensures all financial and revenue cycle management components and goals are met for optimal financial performance. Confirms that appropriate certifications, affiliations, and accreditations are earned and maintained and remains knowledgeable about best practices of management and operations.
    • Monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of the transition from hospice or home health to palliative care.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience required; clinical nursing care in oncology, hospice, geriatrics, intensive care preferred.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and management, particularly in palliative care or end-of-life care programs highly preferred


Skills
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces integrated healthcare at home philosophy. Familiarity with interdisciplinary team collaboration and knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare professionals involved in palliative care. Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for healthcare programs. Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for healthcare organizations, particularly in relation to palliative care services. Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and implement quality improvement initiatives. Proficiency in data analysis, documentation, and reporting related to program outcomes and financial performance. Familiarity with healthcare technology, electronic health records (EHRs), and other relevant software applications.


Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Active and unencumbered CNS or Nurse Practitioner license in state of employment required.
  • Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in Adult, Family, Acute, or Geriatric required.
  • Active NPI number.
  • Maintain active DEA certification if state allows prescription of controlled substances by APPs.
  • Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care is preferred, but not required.
