Work Location

Canada (The successful candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of one of Hydro's Canadian facilities.)

This is a regional, onsite position requiring 50% to 75% travel.

Salary Range

$115,632 - $128,351 CAD per year, depending on experience.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Regional Engineering leadership - Canada and Monett (currently under the interim supervision of the Regional Operations Director), this position works with multiple manufacturing facilities to analyze, develop, and implement strategic automation and mechanization initiatives.

The position also provides technical support to manufacturing operations by evaluating the performance and maintainability of automation systems, while managing modifications to existing control systems.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Coordinate projects in accordance with regional management policies, principles, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with plant teams and corporate resources to develop effective automation solutions.
  • Train local teams on automation systems and programmable logic controller (PLC) programming.
  • Use design and visualization tools to develop and present automation solutions.
  • Prepare project budgets, cost estimates, and business cases.
  • Design, select, install, commission, and qualify automation equipment and systems.
  • Analyze manufacturing process issues, recommend improvements, and troubleshoot industrial control systems and industrial networks.
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


What Will Make You Successful?

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of industrial automation experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with PLC programming, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), industrial control networks, and database management.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently.
  • Full proficiency in English, spoken and written, is required. French is an asset but not required.


Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, FactoryTalk RSView, Wonderware, and Think'N'Do.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, Batch applications, OSI PI Historian, SQL, and Visual Basic.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and Allen-Bradley Remote I/O networks.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and combustion control systems.
  • Experience with commissioning, Installation Qualification (IQ), and Operational Qualification (OQ).
  • Commitment to health and safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow work procedures and safety instructions.
