Job Title: Recreation Supervisor - Guest Services
Department: Recreation
Classification: Non-Exempt; Full-Time

Position Summary: Provides leadership and oversight of Guest Services operations within the City of Aspen Recreation Department, supporting the organization's values and mission statement. Responsible for the daily operation of Guest Services functions at recreation facilities, including customer service, front desk operations, staffing, scheduling, facility access, memberships, retail sales, and patron account management. Supervises Guest Services staff, supports recreation programs and events, serves as a facility leader and Supervisor on Duty, and helps ensure a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for all patrons.

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision and direction of the Operation Manager- Programs.

Essential Job Functions:
Guest Services
• Responsible for the supervision of the Guest Services schedules for Red Brick and ARC.
• Depending on program, duties may include: organizing, marketing, supporting, and evaluating recreation programs to meet community needs and interests
• Responsible for supporting recreation programming in accordance with Recreation plans and industry trends
• Keeps track of program utilization records for facility usage including daily visitor counts.
• Coordinates schedules for Guest Services at all recreation facilities.
• Acts as the Supervisor on Duty (MOD) at the Aspen Recreation facilities, as assigned. MOD duties include responding to customer service, and operational issues. Ensures all safety measures and regulations are followed.
• Responsible for safety during facility events and rentals. Work requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment.
• Responsible for working 2-3 shifts per week on the front desk.

Supervision
• Ability to execute facility operation when manager is not present.
• Documentation of safety incidents and complete accident reporting
• Maintain a violence and harassment free workplace
• Supervise full-time and part-time guest services staff.

Customer Service
• Greets and assists visitors.
• Provides positive customer service and information to all patrons.
• Responsible for answering phones, operate point of sale computers, merchandise sales and handle customer feedback in a polite and courteous manner.
• Knowledge of inventory controls
• Ability to perform simple website updates (ie. Program information and operational hours)

Hiring/Training
• Responsible for hiring and training of all seasonal, temporary and/or intermittent personnel.
• Delegates tasks to personnel during shift as appropriate
• Communicates policies, procedures and job expectations.
• Provides training and resolves problems as necessary.

Retail/Inventory/Budget
• Responsible for purchasing of all retail items for the Aspen Recreation Center and Red Brick.
• Responsible for monthly inventory reports for all retail items at the Aspen Recreation Center and Red Brick.

Safety/Education Training
• Ability to assess condition of facility, lobby and climbing tower.
• Ability to understand EAP procedures and respond during incidents as appropriate.
• Understanding of best practices in facility safety.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, guest services, customer service operations, facility operations, or a related field, including lead or supervisory experience.

Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook Email, and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web based platforms.

Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date. Must possess or obtain current CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire. Paid training will be provided at no cost to candidates who are not already certified.

Preferred Candidate: Has a Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field.

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.

NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Position Type and Work Hours:
• Regular full-time, work schedule may vary based on operational needs, facility hours, special events, staffing requirements, and departmental priorities.
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts, as required to support facility operations, programs, events, rentals, and Supervisor on Duty (MOD) responsibilities.
• May be required to respond to operational issues, emergencies, or staffing needs outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Work Environment:
• Indoors: Work is primarily performed in and around recreation facilities, including the Aspen Recreation Center, Red Brick Recreation Center, and other City recreation facilities.
• Exposure to varying levels of noise, frequent interaction with the public, and a fast-paced environment. Work may involve standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended periods.
• Outdoors/Off-Site: Meetings, trainings, and site visits at a variety of city facilities and areas.

Physical Demands:
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium while walking throughout recreation facilities and performing routine duties.
• Bending: Bending to assist patrons, reach equipment or supplies, and perform cleaning and organizational tasks.
