Summary This requisition expires on August 5, 2026, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date.Responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to real time, day ahead and short-term market operations, resource dispatch, and QSE management, including commercial activities.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties DUTIES- Perform energy management functions including, but not limited to, computerized energy market systems operation, network and/or market analysis, short term load forecasts, generation dispatch, capacity optimization, and short-term portfolio management that includes bids, offers, and/or transactions.
- Determine generation requirements and issues/respond to dispatch/operating instructions to resources, including but not limited to, unit start up and shut down, load response and other QSE activities to meet market operation responsibilities.
- Review, analyze, and identify patterns and/or discrepancies from pricing trend data; meet energy and capacity demands by determining load(s) revisions, daily load forecasts, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) system information, and resource capabilities; request support staff assistance, as needed.
- Monitor and respond to market conditions and change dispatch schedules, as required.
- Monitor weather conditions and forecasts for dispatch impacts; revise schedules and bids/offers and takes market actions to mitigate or optimize market/operational risks, as appropriate.
- Coordinate ERCOT instructions with internal and external stakeholders to meet market demands by determining resource requirements or load forecasts.
- Conduct short-term purchases and sales of energy, capacity, and ancillary services to meet market operations.
- Run day ahead market activities by reviewing forecast functions; make any necessary adjustments for resource allocation, bidding, and fuel requirements.
- Support fuel purchases and scheduling to optimize real time assets, as required.
- Accurately record data on appropriate forms, logs, and systems.

Job Requirements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Quantitative Sciences, Accounting, or related field; and,
- Two (2) years' experience in Energy Market operations, or related field; and,
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Senior Real-Time Trader- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Quantitative Sciences, Accounting, or related field; and,
- Three (3) years' experience in Energy Market operations, or related field; and,
- Must possess or obtain valid ERCOT and/or North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) certifications within six (6) months of employment,

- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws, regulations, procedures, and methods used in energy market operations.
- Knowledge of electric generation fuel requirements, ERCOT and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) operating protocols and guidelines, and Energy Efficiency Collaboration Platform (EECP) and Black Start processes.
- Knowledge of energy buying/selling, power markets and dispatch economics.
- Knowledge of resource, power plant and transmission system dispatch/response operations.
- Skill in performing and documenting mathematical calculations accurately.
- Skill in analyzing and researching, to interpret and understand policies, laws, and regulations, and to provide workable recommendations and solutions that maintain compliance.
- Skill in problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Skill at the intermediate level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements SAFETY - Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, as appropriate and/or notify leadership immediately of needed repairs.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): No.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Lifting no more than 20 pounds and carrying up to 10 pounds.
- Environment: Works in indoors in an environmentally controlled area; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work 24x7 shifts, (12-hour rotating shifts). Must be able to work shifts during the day, night, weekend, and holiday on a rotational basis.
