Unit Summary As a part of a Regional Cancer Program, the Radiation Therapy / Treatment Planning Department of the Juravinski Cancer Centre is an expanding program that provides state-of-the-art planning, simulation and treatment for both external beam radiation and brachytherapy as well as comprehensive support for Radiation Therapy patients. The department includes a School of Radiation Therapy with Clinical Coordinators, and a treatment and administrative staff that include Radiation Therapists, Treatment Planners, Nurses, Mould Room Technicians, Clerks, Secretaries and Health Care Aides.
Currently, there are 3 CT Simulators, 1 MRI Simulator, state-of-the-art treatment planning system, 10 Varian Linear Accelerators, one Ortho-Voltage machine, an HDR Brachytherapy suite, and a CyberKnife unit.
Position Summary Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Radiation Therapy, the Radiation Therapy Quality and Safety Lead is responsible for advancing quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and innovation across the Radiation Therapy Program. The role provides leadership in the development, implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of programs that promote safe, standardized, evidence-based care and support data-informed decision-making.
The successful candidate will lead quality assurance activities, quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, accreditation efforts, performance measurement, and the safe integration of new technologies and clinical innovations. Working collaboratively with operational and medical leaders and interprofessional teams, the Quality and Safety Lead serves as a change leader, educator, and facilitator in support of exceptional patient outcomes and experiences. Key responsibilities include:
• Lead and coordinate quality assurance to ensure safe, consistent, and evidence-based clinical practice.
• Advance quality improvement initiatives that enhance clinical outcomes, operational performance, patient experience, and sustainability.
• Provide quality and safety oversight for the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and innovations.
• Utilize data, analytics, and performance intelligence to identify opportunities and drive improvement.
• Lead activities related to patient safety, incident learning, education, measurement, and safety culture development.
• Support accreditation, regulatory compliance, Safety Occurrence Review processes, and organizational quality prioritie

Qualifications- Radiation Therapist with a Baccalaureate degree in Radiation Therapy.
- Minimum three (3) years of Radiation Therapy experience, including treatment, planning, quality, safety, or data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience leading quality improvement initiatives and applying methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent frameworks.
- Strong understanding of patient safety principles, including systems thinking, human factors, systems design, and high reliability healthcare.
- Experience conducting and facilitating patient safety investigations using methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Proven ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate data to support quality, safety, operational, and strategic decision-making.
- Demonstrated project management, change management, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and patient- and family-centred care.
- Certification or formal training in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Human Factors, Lean, Six Sigma, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of radiation oncology information systems and applicable analytics and office software is considered an asset (e.g. Eclipse, ARIA, OH-CCO Databook, Clinical Connect, One View, EPIC, Remote Access, ARIA Data Admin, MosaiQ as well as office support software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, MS Project, and Access, and process design/improvement software packages such as Simul8, Med Model, Arena, Visio
