Position Summary

The Radar Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and validation of complex systems that support mission-critical applications in the defense and commercial sectors. This role requires a strong understanding of systems engineering principles, requirements management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure end-to-end technical performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and verify system and subsystem requirements, ensuring complete traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Perform system architecture design, trade studies, and interface definition for multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
  • Support Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities using tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Lead integration, verification, and validation of hardware and software components into fully functional systems.
  • Collaborate across hardware, software, and test engineering teams to ensure alignment with performance and compliance requirements.
  • Develop system-level documentation, including requirements specifications, interface control documents, and verification plans.
  • Conduct technical reviews and participate in customer briefings and design audits.
  • Support test planning, execution, and analysis during system integration and verification phases.
  • Ensure compliance with DO-178, DO-254, and other applicable aerospace and defense standards.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science:

  • For Level 3 (5+ years experience) preferred; Level 2 (2-5 years experience) acceptable
  • Radar signal-processing, algorithm development, and AESA hardware/beam-forming expertise; extensive MATLAB/Simulink modeling and performance analysis.
  • Requirements definition, verification, and system architecture using DOORS/MBSE, SysML, and trade-study techniques.
  • End-to-end subsystem integration and test-plan creation for radar-system verification.
  • Secret Clearance Required

Additional Requirements:
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with demonstrated ability to produce clear and accurate engineering artifacts.
  • Proficiency with EDA tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or KiCad.
  • Experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and teamwork orientation
  • US Citizenship Required

Compensation Statement (New Jersey Pay Transparency Notice)

In accordance with New York State's pay transparency requirements, the anticipated annual salary range for this position is $85,000 to $130,000. This range represents a good-faith estimate of the base salary that Thunderbolt Solutions reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting.

Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, relevant experience, education, certifications, specific technical skills, internal equity, and current market conditions.
This position may also be eligible for a company bonus and comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, paid time off (PTO), and a 401(k) retirement plan.
