Quant Analyst for Equity Products group

TMX Group is seeking a highly motivated and inquisitive Quantitative Analyst to join our dynamic Equity Product Design team. In this role, you will dive deep into our vast and unique datasets to uncover trends, analyze market behaviour, and generate insights that inform strategic decisions and product development. You will oversee weekly market share investigations, and collaborate with the Product and CRM teams on remediation of any market share slippage.

This role is hybrid (3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON.
Team: Equity Products Group
Key Accountabilities:
- Analyze large, complex datasets related to trading activity, order flow, and market data using Python and SQL.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance analytical scripts and tools to monitor market quality and investigate trading patterns.
- Conduct ad-hoc research projects to answer critical questions from internal business units, regulators, and clients.
- Own the investigation into any overall market share deviations, in order to determine drivers and suggest remediation processes.
- Create clear and compelling data visualizations, reports, and presentations to share your findings with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with product, technology, and business development teams to support the creation of new data-driven products and services.
- Continuously learn and stay current with market trends, academic research, and new analytical techniques.
Must Have(s):
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, particularly with libraries like pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib/Seaborn.
- Solid experience writing complex and efficient SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from relational databases.
- Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to distill complex quantitative concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- A genuinely inquisitive mindset, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a strong desire to learn.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
Nice to Have(s):
- A demonstrable knowledge of equity market structure, including concepts like order types, liquidity, algorithmic trading, and market fragmentation.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Familiarity with financial market data (e.g., tick data, order book data).
- Progress towards or completion of the CFA designation
Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000/year CAD. Please note that the salary range included is a guideline only. The salary offered may vary based on factors, including, but not limited to, the successful candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
