Quality Engineering Lead

Position Description:

This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client office at a minimum 4 days per week - subject to change at any time.

The QE Lead will drive quality excellence across the Sustainability & Impact portfolio through both strategic oversight and hands-on testing execution. This is a working lead role where you'll spend significant time performing manual and automated testing while also guiding team members and establishing quality standards across vendor applications and dashboard projects. This role requires a technical leader who can balance strategic vision with active, day-to-day testing contributions.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Quality Strategy & Leadership.
• Lead end-to-end quality engineering activities across applications and dashboard projects within the Sustainability & Impact portfolio.
• Define and implement comprehensive test strategies aligned with Bank's quality standards and industry best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to QE team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Hands-On Testing Execution & Oversight.
• Actively perform manual and automated testing activities including functional, regression, integration, and UAT across critical applications and dashboards.
• Design, execute, and maintain automated test scripts and test cases for complex scenarios.
• Conduct exploratory testing, defect verification, and validation of vendor deliverables.
• Oversee and coordinate testing workload distribution across the QE team while maintaining personal testing responsibilities.
• Perform risk-based test planning and gap analysis to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
• Validate applications functionality, performance, and integration with enterprise systems Test Automation Excellence.
• Hands-on development and coding of test automation frameworks to improve testing efficiency and reliability.
• Build, maintain, and enhance automation scripts and infrastructure alongside the team.
• Evaluate and conduct proof-of-concepts (PoCs) with emerging automation tools and AI-driven testing solutions.
• Drive automation adoption and identify opportunities to increase test automation coverage
Collaboration & Communication.
• Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and vendors to understand requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Facilitate defect triage meetings and coordinate resolution with development teams and vendors.
• Communicate testing progress, risks, and quality metrics to stakeholders and senior management

Documentation & Reporting.
• Create and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and testing documentation per Banks standards.
• Generate quality reports, dashboards, and metrics to provide visibility into testing progress and product quality.
• Document test automation frameworks, processes, and best practices for knowledge sharing
Innovation & Continuous Improvement.
• Research and recommend new testing tools, methodologies, and AI/ML capabilities to enhance QE practices.
• Drive process improvements to optimize testing efficiency and effectiveness.
• Stay current with industry trends in quality engineering and sustainability technology

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• 7+ years of experience in software quality engineering with 2+ years in a lead or senior role.
• Strong hands-on expertise in both manual and automated testing methodologies with proven track record of active testing execution.
• Current, hands-on experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, RestAssured).
• Active programming/scripting skills in languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar.
• Experience with API testing, database testing, and web application testing.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integration of automated tests (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab).
• Familiarity with test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Zephyr, qTest).
• Ability to switch seamlessly between hands-on testing and team oversight responsibilities

Education.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
