Position Description: We are looking for a Quality Engineering - Automation professional with strong hands-on experience in modern test automation. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring four days per week onsite at our/client's office in downtown Toronto.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience developing and enhancing automation frameworks using Playwright. The candidate should also have experience leveraging AI/GenAI tools to generate test cases, identify test scenarios, improve test coverage, and accelerate automation development.
Your future duties and responsibilities: - Develop, enhance, and maintain scalable Playwright-based automation frameworks, preferably using TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Create automated tests for functional, regression, integration, API, and end-to-end testing.
- Apply automation design practices such as Page Object Model (POM), reusable components, fixtures, data-driven testing, and parallel execution.
- Use AI/GenAI tools to generate and enhance test cases and test scenarios, identify edge cases, and improve overall test coverage.
- Leverage tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar GenAI solutions to assist with automation code development, debugging, test-data generation, and optimization.
- Review and validate AI-generated test cases and automation code before implementation.
- Integrate Playwright automation into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
- Perform API testing using Postman, REST Assured, Karate, or comparable tools, as well as SQL-based backend and test-data validation.
- Execute smoke, functional, regression, integration, system, UAT, end-to-end, and cross-browser testing.
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, business analysts, and other Quality Engineering professionals in an Agile environment; analyze defects, document test results, contribute to quality metrics and release-readiness activities, and follow coding standards, automation best practices, and quality engineering principles.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Must-have:
- 3-5+ years of hands-on Quality Engineering / test automation experience.
- Strong recent hands-on experience with Playwright automation.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, enhance, and maintain Playwright automation frameworks, rather than only execute existing automated tests.
- Experience using TypeScript/JavaScript for Playwright automation.
- Strong understanding of automation framework concepts, including POM, fixtures, reusable components, data-driven testing, and test reporting.
- Practical experience using AI/GenAI for Quality Engineering, particularly for creating test cases, test scenarios, automation scripts, or improving test coverage.
- Experience with GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar technologies.
- API testing experience with REST APIs and tools such as Postman, REST Assured, or Karate.
- Experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Git/GitHub/Bitbucket and test-management tools such as JIRA, Zephyr, TestRail, or HP ALM.
- Working knowledge of SQL and backend data validation.
- Good understanding of Agile/Scrum and software testing methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- AEM or similar CMS testing experience - an asset, not mandatory.
- Java and/or Python experience.
- Experience testing GenAI/LLM-based applications.
- Prompt engineering experience for generating test cases and scenarios.
- BDD experience using Cucumber/Gherkin.
- Mobile automation experience.
- Accessibility/WCAG testing experience.
- Performance testing using JMeter or similar tools.
- AWS/Azure, Docker, or Kubernetes experience.
- Financial services or banking experience.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000-$115,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
