Quality Engineer
The Quality Engineer ensures compliance with aerospace quality standards and customer requirements throughout the production of composite components for launch vehicles and space systems. This role provides technical expertise in quality assurance, supports manufacturing and integration activities, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to maintain product integrity and mission success.
The Quality Engineer works independently on complex quality tasks, including nonconformance investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. The position collaborates closely with design engineering, production teams, and program quality leadership to ensure that composite structures meet stringent performance and reliability standards.
Your MissionQuality Planning & Compliance
- Ensure composite manufacturing processes comply with AS9100, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
- Support development and maintain inspection plans, quality checklists, and process documentation.
Inspection & Verification
- Oversee completion and compliance of in-process and final inspections of composite layup, curing, machining, and assembly operations though the configured product documentation (Traveler / MWI / IR).
- Validate conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions (Red line process included).
Nonconformance Management
- Identification, documentation, and resolution of nonconformances via ERP requirements (NCR/photo documentation/technical and or test reports)
- Lead investigations of nonconformances and process deviations.
- Drive effective RCCA/CAPA activities using structured problem-solving tools (8D, Fishbone, FMEA).
Risk Management
- Conduct PFMEA and risk assessments for composite manufacturing processes.
- Implement preventive measures to reduce quality risks and improve reliability.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze quality metrics and trends to identify systemic issues.
- Prepare detailed reports for internal reviews and customer audits.
Customer & Supplier Interface
- Support customer audits and quality reviews.
- Collaborate with supplier quality to resolve material or process-related quality issues.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives to improve composite manufacturing processes and reduce defects.
- Support lean and Six Sigma projects to enhance efficiency and quality performance.
Documentation & ERP Systems
- Maintain accurate quality records in ERP/PLM systems (e.g., SAP, Teamcenter).
- Ensure traceability and configuration control for composite components
Your Story - Associates degree or a minimum of 2-5+ years in aerospace or high-reliability manufacturing, with hands-on experience in composite production. Relevant background in an applicable advanced manufacturing industry of similar customer and regulatory requirements considered in lieu of.
- Able to process and analyze data quickly both in and out of SAP/Siemens, identifying areas for correction or reconciliation before and during customer acceptance reviews.
- Must have a strong understanding of quality functions, manufacturing requirements and non-conformance package generation.
- In-depth knowledge of composite manufacturing processes: layup, curing, machining, bonding, and assembly. Configured product understanding
- Strong understanding of aerospace standards such as ISO9000, AS/EN9100, ECSS, NASA and MIL
- Familiarity of quality management software; experience in MS Office and data analytics skills
- Familiarity of RCCA/CAPA methods (5-why,8D, Fishbone diagrams).
- Proficiency to risk analysis concepts (PFMEA) quality planning and process control plans.
- Ability to effectively work independently, or a team setting executing actions for deliverables
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical and interpersonal skills
- High level of enthusiasm and a passion for quality and continuous improvements
- Comfort around upper management and customer teams
- Customer focus through timely decision making with quality requirements
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication (Not afraid to ask the tough questions)
- 5% to 10% ability to travel nationally and internationally as required
