This role is part of the Safety, Quality, & Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin design, manufacture, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, product integrity and continuous improvement processes serve the Blue Origin Mission and Vision.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will apply standard engineering techniques to evaluate product conformance through the execution, optimization, and validation of quality processes. This requires verifying product and process conformance, root cause and corrective action analysis, nonconformance disposition, hardware acceptance planning, and design verification. Establishes quality standards for products and processes and suggests modifications meant to prevent defects in components or final products. Works closely with multi-functional teams, including product design, product management, and production, to identify and mitigate quality risks. Audits production processes, raw materials, or suppliers/vendors to ensure that established quality standards are met. Conducts root cause analysis for defects, non-conformities, or other quality failures. May be responsible for ensuring compliance with formal external quality standards, such as ISO 9001.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish, implement, maintain, and enforce quality system processes that support products in development and production environments
  • Measure, analyze, and improve quality system performance consistent with organization quality goals
  • Review and approve manufacturing build documents including work orders and nonconformance records.
  • Perform periodic audits of the application of our quality system in accordance with AS9100
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and make recommendations to improve the quality and manufacturability of new designs
  • Recommend and improve initiatives and/or changes that will improve product and system quality
  • Provide quality assurance domain expertise to inspection, manufacturing, and test for the Manufacturing team
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers on quality related concerns; develop and present training materials to build quality awareness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. in engineering with 2+ Years of relevant experience.
  • Quality experience in production environment. Aerospace, space launch, or military or commercial aviation preferred
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing fabrication processes such as Machining, Welding, NDT and measurement sciences.
  • Knowledge of Nonconforming and MRB process.
  • Knowledge of First Article Inspection per AS9102
  • Knowledge of SPC principles.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Knowledge in Causal Analysis tools, including cause & effect diagrams, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), 5-why, fault tree analysis, etc.
  • Relevant experience in transitioning a product from development, through production to operations
  • QMS audit experience and quality performance measurement analysis capabilities
  • Six Sigma Green, Black Belt, or comparable certification

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
