Full Job Description
Pay range: $75,000-$95,000/year

Job Summary/Basic Functions:

Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Quality Manager. The Quality Engineer will work with a cross-functional team including Production, Engineering and Materials with a focus on Quality Assurance and Quality Control: developing and implementing processes and procedures for continuous improvement based on quality standards, safety regulations, customer expectations and regulatory requirements; planning and prioritization of related tasks; and assuring compliance of Armstrong products. The Quality Engineer is also responsible for performing a variety of clerical and other Quality-related functions. Assignments can range from routine daily/weekly/monthly tasks to special data collection, analysis, and reporting. All functions of this position are conducted in a professional manner.

Specific Duties / Essential Functions:
  • Lead regulatory compliance activities for UL, CSA, ETL, NSF and Intertek for Armstrong products manufactured in North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls. Includes hosting audits, preparing reports and applications, responding to inquiries and nonconformances, and maintaining databases.
  • Participate in maintaining the Quality and Environmental Management Systems (ISO9001 and ISO14001) by preparing and presenting reports and documentation such as Management Reviews and Quality records and contributing to registration audits.
  • Participate in improving and maintaining Quality System documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and Training documentation.
  • Contribute to and implement Quality plans by collaborating with Production, Engineering, and Design teams by reviewing and analyzing Engineering specifications and designing inspection protocols.
  • Participate in processing Corrective Action plans including short-term actions, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Communicate Quality issues with various Armstrong functions including, but not limited to, Customer Service, Purchasing, Engineering, Logistics and Production. This includes communication with other Armstrong sites.
  • Communicate Quality issues with customers and suppliers.
  • Investigate and analyze inspection and test methodologies. Implement as appropriate.
  • Participate in process analysis and improvement activities such as Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA) and establishing Control Plans.
  • Evaluate new products and components through the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). This includes qualification of components purchased by Armstrong and for products sold to customers.
  • Contribute to achieving Quality goals and objectives by establishing and monitoring Quality metrics.


Preferred Qualifications/Education/Experience:
  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or qualified in a relevant technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Management systems
  • Creative problem-solving skills and trouble-shooting techniques.
  • Working computer knowledge. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with ERP systems, Infor LN is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pumps, HVAC, Heat Exchangers, pressure vessels, motors, VFD drives, sensors, and controls is preferred.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills with customers and suppliers.
  • Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
  • Good organizational skills. Able to multi-task and prioritize. Self-directed with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with a focus on results.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Manual dexterity and strength/stamina to perform all tasks. Able to lift 20 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
