Full Job Description
Overview

We are seeking a full-time Quality Engineer 2 for our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating inspection plans and implementing quality tools to contribute to the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process. This includes CMM programming within a manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions
  • Develops process FMEA, Control Plans, conduct capability assessment, and measurement systems analysis
  • Analyzes and improves quality systems to enhance product and process quality and reduce cost
  • Develops Inspection Reference Plans in support of RMI (as assigned)
  • Conducts audits, documents audit findings and ensures closure of audit findings
  • Analyzes failures and provides corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints
  • Data collection, analysis, and dissemination including quality performance, cost and reliability/warranty calculations
  • Demonstrates good communication skills in collaboration with Garmin associates and external customers
  • Collaborates and adds value in engineering design reviews
  • Understands and implements lean tools and methods in performance of essential functions
  • Estimates level of effort for a task
  • Analyzes data to determine quality trends, finds technical root causes and implement corrective actions for given problems
  • Designs custom tooling as needed for specific applications
  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced quality engineers (Quality Engineer 1)
  • Applies a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
  • Applies Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed
  • Completes basic cost analyses and provides justification for new equipment
  • Certain area requirements: Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear), safety shoes and/or eyeglasses to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Previous experience in a quality engineering role, ideally within a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated full use of industry standards and procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge in use of engineering tools

Desired Qualifications
  • Understanding of AS 9100, APQP/PPAP/MSA, Supplier/sub-supplier Quality, AIG Layered Audits and Customer Specific Requirements
  • Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and Gage R&R studies
  • Experience using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gages
