Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director of Quality has full responsibility for the leadership, oversight, and execution of all final inspection and quality assurance activities. This role has oversight over dimensional inspection, final inspection, NDT (UT/MAG), quality engineers, certification clerks, MRB technicians, and quality assurance representatives. The Director is responsible for managing product flow through inspection, ensuring alignment with production plans, correlating internal and external inspection data, controlling cost, and improving throughput while maintaining compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry quality requirements. This position involves access to information subject to U.S. government flow-down dissemination control NOFORN (Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals). As a result, U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must hold only U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship or other nationalities permitted).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews customer documentation during RFQ and order execution to ensure all manufacturing, technical, and quality requirements are fully understood, documented, and achievable.
  • Identifies applicable industrial standards to confirm organizational capability and compliance with customer specifications.
  • Proactively identifies risks, hidden quality costs, or inspection requirements (fixturing, tooling, testing, surveillance, NDE criteria) and recommends cost-effective compliance strategies.
  • Creates, reviews, and approves order-specific Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Plans; obtains and maintains customer approval where required.
  • Negotiates and establishes effective customer surveillance and third-party inspection strategies, serving as or managing the primary external inspection interface.
  • Reviews and approves final material certifications for accuracy and compliance prior to shipment; coordinates required customer release.
  • Drives reduction of operational delays related to approval of ITPs, QA Plans, waivers, submissions, and customer approvals.
  • Serves as the primary contact for customer quality inquiries, concerns, and representative interactions.
  • Directs internal audit activities to ensure QMS compliance, identifies process improvements, and recommends corrective and preventive actions.
  • Partners with documentation and quality systems teams to improve data flow, documentation efficiency, and reporting accuracy.
  • Oversees adherence to applicable industry standards (AS9100, ISO, API, ASME, etc.) and manages inspection and data collection systems.
  • Audits and continuously improves both internal processes and third-party inspection services supporting plant operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provides leadership and direction to quality management personnel, inspection teams, engineers, technicians, and external service providers. Responsible for planning, staffing, performance management, training, and development of quality team members in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to train others in statistical and quality methods.
  • Strong analytical thinking, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality standards including AS9100, AS9102, & ISO9001.
  • Knowledge of metrology

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required (Metallurgical Engineering preferred).
  • ASQ certification (CQA, CQE, CQM, or Six Sigma Black Belt) preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of quality leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience in metal processing and aerospace-regulated environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ASM2750
  • Experience with internal and external customer requirements with a high attention to detail in resolving findings
  • Experience working with CMMs and visual inspection tools
  • Experience with conducting high level investigations regarding quality escapes and application of engineering methods for resolution such as fishbone diagram, 5Y, 8D, Root Cause Corrective Action
  • Experience with auditing and implementing corrective actions to maintain compliance with the Quality Management System

For informational purposes only, the range for annual base salary for this role is $150000 to $190000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Executive Bonus Plan, paid out up to 30% of the applicable annual base salary, based on the Company's performance in the prior calendar year. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)).
