Full Job Description
This position reports to:
Electrical Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of ABB electrical projects across manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and customer locations. This position requires frequent travel to support project execution, verify adherence to ABB engineering designs, and ensure installations meet applicable codes, standards, and quality expectations. The Quality Control Specialist serves as the primary quality representative in the field, working closely with project managers, engineers, installation teams, inspection personnel, and customers to identify issues, drive corrective actions, and ensure project documentation is completed thoroughly.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid with frequent travel. #LI-Hybrid

This role is contributing to the Automation Energy Industries division in Houston, TX.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Traveling regularly to manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and customer locations to perform quality inspections and audits throughout project execution.
  • Utilizes safety systems to perform work, resulting in an accident-free workplace.
  • Developing procedures / checklists for testing activities and inspection tasks.
  • Ensuring successful equipment or building integrated FATs (IFAT) which may include LV power and control circuit troubleshooting.
  • Verifying all electrical installations conform to ABB engineering drawings, specifications, local codes, and industry standards.
  • Conducting field quality inspections and identifying installation deficiencies, documenting findings, and driving corrective actions to completion.
  • Producing construction progress reports to align project management team with updates on quality and schedule.
  • Field verifying installation teams are accurately completing and submitting redline drawings on a regular cadence.
  • Ensuring installation records, inspection reports, test documentation, and turnover packages are completed correctly.
  • Working closely with project management, engineering, commissioning, and construction teams to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Participating in customer quality meetings, inspections, and factory/site acceptance activities as required.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring quality issues and recommending process improvements.
  • Promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and compliance across all project sites.
  • Provides feedback and advice to the Engineering team on improvement opportunities in product and/or process design.

Qualifications for the role
  • You enjoy working in the field and traveling to customer and manufacturing sites to support project execution.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical construction, quality assurance, commissioning, field engineering, or a related industrial role.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical installation best practices.
  • Experience interpreting electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, layout drawings, and construction documentation.
  • Experience performing field quality inspections and documenting inspection results.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical equipment, control systems, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and power distribution systems.
  • Experience with medium voltage power projects up to 35kV.
  • Strong understanding of electrical testing procedures including insulation resistance, contact resistance, VLF, hi-pot, partial discharge, etc.
  • Experience reviewing and managing redline drawings and construction documentation.
  • Strong understanding of installation testing, inspection records, turnover documentation, and project closeout requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, contractors, engineers, and project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel extensively (approximately 50-75%) throughout the United States and occasionally internationally as project requirements dictate.
  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or quality-related certifications are considered a plus.
  • You are currently authorized to work permanently in the United States.
