Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk Management, the Quality and Risk Consultant will lead prevention and responses to resident safety incidents and support risk management and issue management.

This full-time position serves as a subject matter expert for resident safety incidents and supportive role in Compliance, Accreditation, and Emergency Preparedness activities.

This position will be based in Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide virtual and in-person guidance and consultation with leaders across the organization.
  • Monitor quality, critical incidents, resident safety incidents (RMM), resident deaths and enterprise risk management activities across the organization.
  • Analyze organizational and resident related risks and safety trends.
  • Support resident safety incident processes and practices in the form of chart audits, interviews with staff, and root cause analyses, analysis of resident-related risk and safety trends, and implementation of action plans.
  • Knowledgeable of Extendicare's long-term care operations across Canada, including legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Work in partnership with operational leaders and other head office leads in advancing safety culture across the organization.
  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Actively support accreditation activities, including mock surveys, education sessions, and working groups.
  • Work in partnership with Extendicare's IPAC, quality, clinical, occupational health and safety, and other head office functions to address and prevent safety issues and manage risk.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of policies and programs.
  • Develop and deliver education related to the incident management program and as required.


What we're looking for:
  • Member in good standing with provincial nursing regulatory college.
  • Master's degree in nursing, quality, education or leadership, an asset.
  • 10-years of experience in health care, with at least 5 years as a consultant or in a management role.
  • Understanding of LTC industry legislative requirements and continuous quality improvement (CQI) principles and approaches.
  • Experience in project coordination and change management in relation to advancing interprofessional quality of care.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Health Information Systems (e.g., PointClickCare, provincial information repositories, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience with data analysis and Business Intelligence (BI) tools to determine performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to travel when is need it, including quarterly visits to the Head Office in Markham, Ontario.
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
  • Partner with stakeholders, providing strong client service and collaboration.
  • Support decision-making through negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills.
