The QA Supervisor - Overnights oversees food safety and quality assurance programs within a high-volume food manufacturing facility during the overnight shift. This role supervises QA staff, ensures compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, and drives continuous improvement in food safety and product quality. The supervisor works closely with Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehousing, and Supply Chain teams to maintain robust food safety systems and consistent product standards.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage QA technicians and hourly quality staff on the overnight shift.
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of QA personnel to build a high-performing team.
  • Allocate resources and manage QA workflows to meet departmental and operational goals.
  • Ensure effective food safety and quality training across cross-functional teams, including production and sanitation.
  • Support implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of food safety programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee and verify adherence to HACCP, GMP, SSOP, and prerequisite programs throughout the facility.
  • Monitor production activities to ensure compliance with quality and food safety standards.
  • Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review production records and perform pre-shipment checks to ensure only compliant product is released.
  • Lead investigations into customer complaints, non-conformances, deviations, and in-process quality issues.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and ensure thorough, accurate documentation.
  • Partner with sanitation teams to verify cleaning effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Generate detailed shift reports and communicate findings across departments to support timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams and external stakeholders regarding quality and food safety matters.
  • Support regulatory and third-party inspections and audits as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality and food safety issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills
  • 3-5+ years of experience in food safety or quality within a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent hands-on experience in food manufacturing quality.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience in a quality or food safety function (preferred but strongly valued).
  • Working knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in a production environment.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitation programs.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and quality systems in food and beverage manufacturing, including aseptic processes.
  • HACCP certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with quality assurance in food and beverage manufacturing, including batch record review and quality checks.
  • Hands-on experience with CAPA, audits, inspections, document control, and food safety programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including production, sanitation, and leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively address food safety and quality concerns.
  • Ability to work effectively in a bilingual environment; bilingual Spanish skills are beneficial for working with team members who primarily speak Spanish.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with USDA and FDA regulatory requirements in food manufacturing.
  • in food science, food safety, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience in food and beverage quality control, including inspection and batch record review.
  • Exposure to aseptic processing and related quality controls.
  • Experience conducting or supporting internal and external audits.
  • Familiarity with third-party certification schemes; SQF or similar certification is a plus.
  • Bilingual Spanish communication skills are a strong advantage for supporting a diverse workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong documentation, recordkeeping, and document control capabilities.

Work Environment
This role is based in a new food manufacturing facility operating seven days a week, with primary responsibility for the overnight shift. The QA Supervisor will own all quality and food safety activities for their shift. Most of the workday is spent on the production floor in a hands-on capacity, with access to an office for documentation, reporting, and coordination tasks. The supervisor will lead a team of approximately 2-3 QA staff and will work closely with a large sanitation team of about 50 people on the overnight shift. The environment is a dynamic, high-volume production setting where collaboration with Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehousing, and Supply Chain is essential. The facility supports a bilingual workforce, and some team members communicate primarily in Spanish. Dress typically includes appropriate food manufacturing and safety attire such as hairnets, protective clothing, and other personal protective equipment as required by the facility's food safety and GMP standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
