Mortenson is currently seeking a PV Solar Design Engineer I or II to join our Solar group to provide Solar PV design engineering support throughout the proposal and design phase of the project.

Travel: Minimal up to 4 times a year

Location: MN-HQ (hybrid), would also consider hiring in our Denver, CO and San Antonio, TX regional offices. Relocation is an option.

This position offers opportunities at both levels I and II, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design utility-solar PV systems using AutoCAD, PVCase, PVFarm and related software, including single-line diagrams, array layouts, fence layout, road layout, in 2D and 3D software.
  • Establish Solar PV basis of design including module selection, string sizing, ground coverage ratio, inverter selection, inverter power factor requirements, inverter loading ratio, and cable sizing
  • Perform energy performance modeling using PVSyst software. Primary use is of PVSyst, but some knowledge of NLR System Advisor Model (SAM) is required
  • Conduct and evaluate performance testing according to the contractual documents
  • Lead meetings with both internal and external parties.
  • Use Excel spreadsheets and calculations to electrically size Solar PV systems
  • Understanding of utility PPA and Interconnection requirements
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to tasks, particularly when updating current technical tools and evaluating new software
  • Generates new ideas, goes beyond the status quo; recognizes the need for new or modified approaches
  • Collaborate with field, construction, and engineering teams to resolve design issues and develop solutions


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field


  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NFPA standards a plus


  • Basic understanding of construction techniques and project management practices


  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and related Autodesk software or equivalent design software


  • Demonstrated electrical, structural, or mechanical design skills, with the ability to generate accurate, and highly detailed construction drawings


  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills


  • Good problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Strong ability to apply innovative and creative skills to problem solving


  • Proactive work ethics and accountability for work


PV Engineer I

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field


  • The base pay range for this role is $80,900 - $109,300


PV Engineer II

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field


  • Minimum two years in Solar PV construction management or system design, preferably utility scale


  • Proficiency in PVSyst or related solar performance modeling software


  • The base pay range for this role is $91,700 - $123,800


(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
