GENERAL SUMMARY

The Purchasing Department Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily purchasing operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services, and driving tactical process improvements across the department. This role coordinates a team of buyers, monitors supplier performance, and implements strategies to optimize purchasing workflows. The supervisor identifies areas for operational enhancement, develops action plans, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to streamline procurement processes and reduce inefficiencies. Additional duties include maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with company policies, and providing training and guidance to purchasing staff.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Lead and supervise purchasing team to achieve departmental goals through KPI daily monitoring and coordination of efforts to mitigate issues,
  • Coordinate efforts in the purchasing team to implement new vendors collaborating with Planning and Inventory team to guarantee coverage through transitions,
  • Maintain accurate procurement records (IFO records, lead times, master data...) and ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to team members regarding best practices and new procedures.
  • Cross functional collaboration to align purchasing strategies with organizational objectives (acceleration, preordering, E&O reduction etc).
  • Review Inventory Health on a weekly basis and drive actions with purchasing team to have buy parts above 25% inventory in full range avoid stock outs.
  • Monitor purchasing volume to ensure preferred supplier is used and sourcing savings plan is executed.
  • Identify and communicate inflation risks and coordinate efforts for mitigation.
  • Approve/ control airfreight expenses coordinating efforts to identify causes and create mitigation plan.
  • Purchasing governance.
  • Lead process improvement projects implementation.
  • Create a team environment that fosters collaboration with planning team.
  • Build a strong relationship with Key suppliers.


SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to communicate in fluent English is required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field
  • CPM or APICS certification helpful but not required
  • SAP software experience required
  • 4+ years' purchasing leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management required
  • Proven history of developing effective inventory management policies required
  • Working knowledge of purchasing, sourcing, supplier performance management, supply chain and inventory strategies & practices; including demonstrated competency in strategic sourcing.
  • Strong negotiations and contract management skills
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft applications: PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding
  • Must be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skills
  • Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy
  • Works well under stress with the ability to deliver on time
