Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager leads and develops the site procurement function for Biomerics' plastics division CDMO operation. This role owns the strategic direction, process architecture, and performance of a team of buyers while ensuring compliance, supply continuity, and cost effectiveness across direct materials and indirect/MRO spend. The Purchasing Manager is a key cross-functional leader-influencing at Plant GM and Supply Chain Director levels-and is expected to build a scalable procurement organization with a roadmap toward multi-site oversight within 1-2 years.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of buyers with clear performance expectations, accountability structures, and individual development plans.
  • Build a high-performing procurement culture grounded in Biomerics' values; mentor buyers on best practices, supplier management, and compliance disciplines.
  • Partner with Supply Chain leadership to identify career progression paths and educational opportunities for the procurement team.

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
  • Develop category strategies for direct materials (resins, components) and indirect/MRO spend, leveraging commodity analysis and spend consolidation to drive negotiating leverage.
  • Lead MSA negotiations and collaborate with peer SCM leaders across Biomerics sites to align on enterprise agreements and combined spend leverage.
  • Monitor resin pricing trends, supplier capacity, and supply chain risk to drive proactive sourcing decisions.

Process Architecture & Compliance
  • Design and implement procurement SOPs, guardrails, and workflows that create repeatable, compliant, and scalable purchasing operations across the site.
  • Maintain ERP/MRP data integrity (NetSuite preferred) across lead times, safety stock, reorder points, and vendor master records to prevent E&O exposure.
  • Ensure full compliance with ISO 13485 and applicable FDA requirements; partner with Quality on supplier qualification, ASL maintenance, and CAPA resolution.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Influence
  • Serve as a strategic procurement partner to the Plant GM, Supply Chain Director, and senior leadership, translating supply dynamics into business risk and opportunity language.
  • Build strong partnerships with Production Planning, Engineering, Quality, and R&D to align procurement with program needs, NPIs, and customer program requirements.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and present escalation recommendations with supporting data and decision frameworks to senior leadership.

Departmental Vision & Roadmap
  • Develop and execute a clear 6-12-month procurement roadmap covering process maturity milestones, team development, system improvements, and strategic sourcing priorities.
  • Establish and report procurement KPIs including on-time delivery, cost savings, supplier performance, PO accuracy, and inventory health.
  • Build procurement infrastructure that is documented and scalable for multi-site oversight, targeting expanded scope within 1-2 years.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive procurement or supply chain experience, including 3+ years managing a purchasing team in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier negotiation; plastics or direct materials category experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to build procurement processes, SOPs, and cross-functional workflows in a regulated industry (ISO 13485 / FDA).
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders (Director/GM level) across Quality, Engineering, Operations, and Planning.
  • ERP/MRP proficiency required; NetSuite experience strongly preferred. Strong Excel and data analytics skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills; experience driving enterprise-level MSA alignment across multiple sites preferred.
  • CDMO or contract manufacturing experience highly desirable. CPSM, CSCP, or CIPS certification a plus.
