Public Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

Nurse Practitioner 1, 2, or 3

Performs advanced nursing functions and healthcare services in specialized areas. Operates under a written nurse protocol agreement with their delegating physician, conducts complete physicals, provides treatment, and counsels clients. May prescribe medication in some cases.

All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Distribution site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts physical examinations, performs screening and/or orders diagnostic tests, such as breast and pelvic screening, colposcopy and laboratory tests
  • Assesses and provides care for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and dementia screenings
  • Develops comprehensive plans of care
  • Performs limited acute care visits outlined in District 4 Nursing Protocols
  • Instructs and counsels clients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance
  • Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal, assuring tracking and follow up in accordance with protocol
  • Makes tentative diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients
  • Obtains, compiles and records client medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, wound care, and infection management
  • Orders therapy or medication with physician approval
  • Proficient with Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC), including IUD insertion, IUD removal, Nexplanon insertion and Nexplanon removal (If not fully trained in this area, must be willing to undergo proper training to perform this service)


Minimum Qualifications
PH Advanced Practice RN 1 - (Annual Salary - $74,758.74)

Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and/orother education requirements approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing AND certification in the specialty area(s) approved by Georgia Board of Nursing AND Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse AND Georgia license as an APRN AND CPR certification
PH Advanced Practice RN 2 - (Annual Salary - $84,477.37)

Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and/orother education requirements approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing AND certification in the specialty area(s) approved by Georgia Board of Nursing AND Two (2) years of nursing experience AND Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse AND Georgia license as an APRN AND current certification in specialty area AND CPR certification; OR Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level PH Advanced Practice RN 1 (HCP200) or position equivalent
PH Advanced Practice RN 3 - (Annual Salary - $95,459.43)
Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and/orother education requirements approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing AND certification in the specialty area(s) approved by Georgia Board of Nursing AND Four (4) years of nursing experience AND Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse AND Georgia license as an APRN AND current certification in specialty area AND CPR certification; OR Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level PH Advanced Practice RN 2 (HCP201) or position equivalent
NOTE: Level of position hired will be based on number of years performing duties consistent with Public Health experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public Health Nursing Experience
  • At least one (1) year of clinical experience working with Family Practice
  • Experience with screening, GRITS, and interviewing patients
  • Bilingual Spanish/English Speaking Language
