SHIFT:
Day (United States of America)

A Brief Overview
Renders Physical Therapy services to an assigned caseload of children who are seen in any setting at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Has an advanced level of clinical expertise as demonstrated by advanced practice and certification(s). Serves as mentor to staff in area(s) of specialization, as well as in general clinical, academic and research domains. Responsible for growth and development of clinical specialty area within the Center, including the development and maintenance of clinical procedures and protocols, and internal and external research and teaching. Works with Center leadership team to develop and implement new policies, procedures and programs as well as support management team in supervision of staff and oversight of daily operations as needed.. Contributes to the advancement of physical therapy practice through clinical research activities and/or dissemination of knowledge, education of staff therapists, interns and other health care providers.

What you will do
  • Clinical care:
  • Independently selects and administers appropriate evaluations to individuals with complex medical, social and psychological issues
  • Develops a plan of care which includes measurable goals/objectives and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, as appropriate
  • Provides relevant family and caregiver training and instructs patients and family members in the use of adaptive equipment and devices
  • Records and presents findings, impressions and recommendations according to established professional and hospital procedures and standards
  • Serves as an expert practitioner in one or more areas of clinical practice
  • Fills the role of direct care provider across functional lines as needed in the event of a staffing shortage or unusually high patient volume
  • Education:
  • Works with Education and Development Coordinator to develop staff in-services and clinical competency checks in area(s) of expertise
  • Provides consultation and mentorship to staff and students in the area of expertise and in the general evaluation and treatment of complex cases
  • Provides formal internal in-services to staff, eligible for CEUs, when available
  • Participates in CHOP's teaching mission through the education of medical residents, fellows and others in the area of pediatric PT
  • External Teaching Opportunities-Serves as a resource to local Physical Therapy educational programs and related disciplines.

  • Maintains current skills and knowledge by identifying own learning needs, both formally and informally, to practice a lifestyle of life-long learning.
  • Involved in professional activities beyond the practice setting, including membership and active involvement in appropriate professional organizations
  • Works to establish regional and national reputation in area of expertise by serving as a professional resource through research and teaching activities
  • Contributes to the current PT professional body of knowledge through presentations and professional writing, as well as participation in APTA and other professional organizations
  • Seeks opportunities for collaboration with professional counterparts at peer centers of excellence
  • Serves as a resource to other hospital staff regarding standards of clinical practice in pediatric PT
  • Administration
  • Works with Manager to develop quality improvement initiatives within the Center, with specific focus on area of specialty
  • Supports Supervisors in supervision of staff and leadership of daily operations, as needed
  • Mentors new hires and junior clinical staff
  • Benchmarks department practice with national standards and current literature. Develops evidence-based practice procedures and guidelines, and works with the appropriate Education and Development Coordinator and Manager to implement into practice.
  • Maintains and updates portfolio of professional activities and responsibilities in order to maintain role within the Center

Education Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Physical Therapy. Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy will be accepted for individuals licensed previous to December 31, 2002 - Required
  • Doctorate - Preferred
  • Technical Diploma Vestibular Rehabilitation - Preferred

Experience Qualifications
  • At least ten (10) years PT experience - Required
  • At least four (4) years within an area of pediatric specialty - Preferred

Skills and Abilities
  • Fundamental research and presentation skills.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCIP) - American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) - upon hire - Preferred and
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
  • Pediatric Clinical Specialist (PCS) - American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) - - Preferred


SALARY RANGE:

$101,300.00 - $129,100.00 Annually
