Medical Director - Psychiatrist

Advanced Recovery Systems is seeking a Medical Director - Psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership and exceptional psychiatric care at The Recovery Village South Atlanta.

The Medical Director will provide oversight of medical and psychiatric services while working collaboratively with nursing, clinical, and executive leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based patient care.

This is primarily a clinical position. Administrative responsibilities represent a smaller portion of the role, with the Medical Director expected to spend the majority of their time providing direct psychiatric care, evaluating patients, managing co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, and supporting the medical team.

The ideal candidate is a board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrist with strong clinical experience and an interest in addiction psychiatry, substance use disorders, detoxification, and co-occurring mental health treatment.
Clinical Care
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Provide psychiatric care consistent with the philosophy, clinical standards, and evidence-based practices of Advanced Recovery Systems.
  • Evaluate patients for psychiatric medications and develop individualized medication management plans.
  • Assess and manage psychiatric symptoms, substance-related conditions, withdrawal, intoxication, and other complications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of detoxification protocols and the management of patients experiencing substance withdrawal.
  • Provide and oversee Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate.
  • Evaluate suicide risk, self-harm risk, behavioral health concerns, and other psychiatric emergencies.
  • Screen for substance use disorders, including intoxication, toxicity, withdrawal symptoms, and other substance-related complications.
  • Assess pain and utilize individualized pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment strategies while considering the risks of dependency, addiction, and abuse.
  • Review off-site medical examinations, screening results, laboratory data, and other available medical information to ensure patient needs are appropriately addressed.
  • Develop, implement, and periodically update individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and collaborate with nursing, clinical, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide administrative oversight and clinical leadership for the facility's medical and psychiatric services.
  • Lead and support the medical staff while fostering a collaborative relationship with nursing, clinical, and other facility departments.

Requirements
  • Graduated from an accredited medical school.
  • Must have experience in addiction medicine.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory position.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission and other indicated healthcare standards are necessary.
  • Familiarity with ASAM/ ASAM Criteria and other indicated healthcare standards are necessary.
  • Communication skills to relate to all levels of facility staff.
  • Licensed to practice medicine, e.g. Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine DO) in the appropriate state, as applicable, required.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry required and ABPM-Addiction Medicine preferred.
  • Must have a DEA to prescribe Controlled medications and have had training on Buprenorphine Prescribing.
  • Application of Continuous Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Team philosophy and ability to develop and apply organizational strategies
