Full Job Description
Duties Description New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists.

The selected candidate will serve as Medical Director of the Center for Practice Innovation (CPI), an intermediary organization that supports the Office of Mental Health's (OMH) mission to promote the widespread availability of evidence-based practices to improve mental health services, ensure accountability, and promote recovery-oriented outcomes.

Under the direction of the Director of CPI, the selected candidate's duties will include but are not limited to:
• Providing medical and psychiatric input and consultation to CPI OMH initiatives;
• Participating in and leading the development of online learning modules and playing a key role in supporting CPI's Educational Unit;
• Collaborating with New York State Psychiatric Institute and other OMH facilities and programs;
• Serving as part of the CPI Leadership Team;
• Serving as a member of the ACT Institute Team.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

*Limited permit option: If you are licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada, AND meet the other requirements for Psychiatrist 1 or 2, you are also eligible if you have a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. If appointed, you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited was issued. Failure to do so will result in removal from your position.

Additional Comments Psychiatrists at OMH facilities are eligible for:
• Psychiatrist Loan Repayment Program offering up to $120,000
• Supplemental income of up to 50% of salary by volunteering to provide evening, night, and weekend coverage
• Defense and Indemnification Protection- broader in scope than typical medical malpractice coverage
• OMH sponsored Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program

If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

3. Continued employment as a Psychiatrist 1 or Psychiatrist 2 is dependent upon current licensure to practice medicine and in the case of Psychiatrist 1 or Psychiatrist 2, current certification in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Loss of licensure and certification may result in removal from this position.
