Position type: Full-time 37.5 hours

FLSA: Exempt

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive care to Trillium Health patients.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a collaborative practice agreement with a licensed physician in New York State.
  • Adhere to the Scope and Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and maintain required credentials.
  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnose conditions, and create individualized treatment plans using evidence-based approaches.
  • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, monitor effectiveness and side effects, and ensure ethical compliance.
  • Educate patients and families about mental health, treatment options, and medication management.
  • Coordinate care and collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team for holistic treatment.
  • Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling as needed.
  • Maintain thorough and compliant clinical documentation.
  • Participate in case conferences, clinical meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and stay current with advancements in psychiatric care.
  • Promote cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in all patient interactions.
  • Act as a preceptor for allied health students when requested.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality and proprietary information.
  • Meet departmental performance standards and support compliance and quality improvement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse and current certification through NYS Office of the Professions as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry. National certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) (or other certifying body) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner preferred, ideally in an outpatient or community mental health setting.
  • Experience working in substance abuse disorders.
  • Experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is preferred.


Physical Requirements: The physical requirements for this position include the ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands for handling objects, reach with arms, communicate verbally, and hear. Occasionally, the employee may need to stoop, bend, and lift or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements involve close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These requirements are considered essential in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
