Job Summary:

University Health Services is looking for a Staff Psychiatrist to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work in our exciting environment, meeting the health and well-being needs of the UW-Madison student population.

The Staff Psychiatrist provides routine and emergent psychiatric care to University of Wisconsin-Madison students under the supervision of the Director of Psychiatry. This care includes:
  • Providing psychiatric care per national standards of care to patients with a variety of psychiatric
    disorders, which include eating disorders, ADHD, psychotic illnesses, and substance use disorders.
  • Performing a comprehensive mental health history and diagnostic interview, ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing, and making therapeutic decisions including prescribing medications within the scope of state licensure.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to serving all populations at the University of Wisconsin, educating mostly transitional-age patients from Wisconsin and around the globe.
  • Collaborating and following workflows in a complex system to engage with, provide consultation or provider referrals to, other treatment providers including mental health and medical providers inside and outside of University Health Services, or coordinate care with care managers.
  • Monitoring patient outcomes and initiate modifications in treatment plan based on patient response.
  • Following agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA, and maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.
  • Duties will be performed under the supervision of the Director of Psychiatry.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Performs comprehensive psychiatric assessment, including mental status examination
  • Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well-being of patients and those around them
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems

Assesses and manages safety risks and documents care and clinical considerations per UHS policy.
  • May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • Develops, implements, collects data, and evaluates primary health care services as directed by individual care plans
  • Develops individualized care plans based on medical assessments in accordance with medical best practices and established rules and regulations

Completes documentation for eligibility for campus disability services, international student needs, qualifications to study abroad, etc

Attends meetings to support institutional efforts.

The starting salary is $108,000, and is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a mental health setting
  • APNP - Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber Required. Licensed in the state of Wisconsin or eligible to be licensed by start date.
  • Certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Preferred. Licensed in the state of Wisconsin or eligible to be licensed by start date.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with transitional age youth/adolescents/ young adult patient population
  • Experience in college health or college mental health setting


Education:

Doctor of Nursing Practice, Masters in Nursing, or Nurse Practitioner - Required
