Full Job Description
Term/Status: Permanent, Full-time (70 hours bi-weekly)
Classification/Salary: Social Program Officer R27 / Position starts at $88,130.7 annually
Team: Communications & Community Engagement
Location: Any CLBC office (Hybrid - 3 days a week in the office - after passing a 6-month probation)

About the opportunity:

As a Provincial Community Engagement Lead at CLBC, you are responsible for leading the implementation of CLBC's community engagement strategies and supporting consistent, meaningful engagement with people CLBC serves, their families, self-advocacy groups, Community Councils, and community partners across British Columbia. You will also strengthen the leadership and participation of people with lived experience, support Community Councils and advisory groups, develop and facilitate accessible engagement approaches, and build the capacity of CLBC staff to establish authentic relationships, gather and respond to feedback, and advance diverse, inclusive, and welcoming communities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Develop annual reporting and other materials that communicate Community Council activities, outcomes, and contributions.
  • Coordinate and support the use of Community Council guidelines, operating practices, and resources by Community Councils and regional staff across the province.
  • Advise on and supports grants, projects, and other initiatives that build self-advocacy and family leadership skills and capacity.
  • Work with CLBC's policy team to support the self-advocate policy sub-committee and other opportunities for self-advocates to contribute to policy-related work.
  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate engagement plans and activities that enable CLBC to listen to and learn from people it serves, families, service providers, and community partners.
  • Gather feedback on engagement activities and identifies opportunities to strengthen future engagement approaches, with reference to CLBC's Community Engagement Framework and related practice guidance.
  • Mentor, coach, and advise CLBC staff and management teams on engagement practices that build trust and meaningful relationships with people CLBC serves, families, and communities.
  • Gather, write, and support stories and other content that promote self-determination, leadership, inclusion, and full citizenship of people CLBC serves.

We're also looking for someone with:
  • Knowledge of issues and barriers affecting people with developmental disabilities and their families in British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of community engagement principles, approaches, and best practices, including the principles of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2).
  • Ability to analyze engagement information, identify themes and trends, and provide clear recommendations to managers and project teams.
  • Ability to facilitate diverse groups through strategic planning, goal setting, consensus building, and development of practical work plans.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of the application of information technology systems, specifically Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and similar virtual collaboration and presentation tools.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related human service field from a recognized post-secondary institution. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will also be considered.
  • At least 5 years' experience working alongside the self advocacy and community living sector in an advisory capacity is desired. This includes a proven track record of successfully supporting self advocates to prepare for and participate in a variety of leadership building activities such as forums, meetings, committees/councils, boards, workshops etc.
  • At least 5 years' experience successfully developing and leading engagement and community building strategies and activities with diverse communities.
  • Certification or/and work experience creating a detailed understanding of plain language communication skills is an asset.
