Prototype Shop Supervisor

Sterling Heights, MI

$52.16 - $53.61/Hour

Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. As a prime mover in ground force capabilities, this firm provides innovative solutions that ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel worldwide, focusing on durability, mobility, and performance. You will lead and support a team of 15-30 bargaining unit personnel in the assembly, build, and checkout of prototype or production vehicles while ensuring schedule, quality, and safety objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical lead and primary point of coordination for vehicle build and assembly operations.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and direction to shop personnel to ensure customer and production requirements are met.
  • Organize and set up work areas, tooling, and shop work orders to optimize workflow and vehicle checkout activities.
  • Assist the Section Manager with resource planning, including manpower, tools, equipment, and workspace allocation to support production schedules.
  • Verify personnel are properly trained and certified prior to assignment of work tasks.
  • Support proposal development by providing input for labor estimates, quotations, and bids for new work.
  • Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing cycle times, lowering costs, minimizing inventory, and improving operational efficiency.
  • Participate in daily production status meetings and cross-shift coordination meetings to communicate priorities and resolve issues.
  • Review and approve shop work orders and material requests from inventory/crib operations.
  • Monitor work order progress and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and production targets.
  • Assist with approval and verification of employee timecards and labor reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) requirements, company policies, and standard operating procedures.


Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or related education preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing, prototype assembly, vehicle production, or related industrial operations.
  • Additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.
  • Experience leading or coordinating production/shop floor personnel in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
    • Production scheduling and resource coordination
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Project coordination and workflow management
  • Ability to interpret and manage shop work orders, production priorities, and operational metrics.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and 2nd shift as required.
  • Must meet Anthropometric Size Restrictions (ASR) requirements.
