**This position is eligible to work from home in IL, MI, MN or WI**

The Property Risk Control Field Technical Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive on-site property inspections and technical risk evaluations. This role serves as a key partner to underwriting teams by assessing property-related exposures, including fire protection, natural catastrophes, and structural risks. Through detailed analysis and actionable recommendations, this position is a critical role in supporting underwriting decisions and improving overall property risk profiles.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs detailed physical inspections of commercial accounts and high-hazard properties to evaluate Property risk exposures and controls, may include inspection of flat roofs that are accessible only via fixed ladder access.

  • Assesses exposures related to special hazards, fire protection, CAT exposures, crime, and liability risks.

  • Evaluate life safety systems, fire protection equipment, and building construction and integrity.

  • Prepares comprehensive survey reports that include building diagrams, digital photography, and clearly articulated risk improvement recommendations.

  • Develop detailed Property Loss Expectancies (PML, NLE, MFL).

  • Collaborates closely with underwriting teams by providing accurate risk evaluations and technical insights to support informed pricing and policy decisions.

  • Communicates identified hazards and exposures to clients, offering practical and cost-effective solutions to reduce potential losses and improve overall safety.

  • Perform follow-up on clients execution of the recommendations.

  • Reviews Fire Protection and Building plans for new construction projects as well as Fire Protection upgrades to existing properties to ensure adequate protection as per NFPA and FM guidelines.

  • Stays current on industry trends, regulations, and technical standards (NFPA and FM).

  • Provides technical training and guidance to clients and internal teams.

  • Serves a technical resource on property related matters to Risk Control team members.

  • One on one training and co-surveys with field staff in the region.

Education & Experience:

  • Five years of experience in Large Property loss control, risk assessment, or Highly Protected Risk (HPR) environments or related experience

  • Certifications such as CFPS, CSP, or equivalent preferred

  • A strong emphasis for this role is to demonstrate proficiency in hazard identification skills, emphasizing property in the Middle Market, Large Account and Specialty space

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of property risk assessment and hazard mitigation

  • Ability to interpret and apply national safety standards and codes

  • Skilled in communicating complex technical information to diverse audiences

  • Proficient in influencing stakeholders to act on risk control recommendations

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and report-writing skills

  • Ability to make complex technical information understandable to varied audiences

  • Experience in influencing others to take action on recommendations

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Proficient interviewing techniques and technical report writing ability

  • Ability to climb a fixed ladder, unless flat roof is accessible via another method like elevator or staircase

  • Resides within assigned territory

  • Travel required; a valid drivers license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:

$103,954 - $149,372 or $114,895 - $164,309

A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range.The actual salary will depend on several factors, includingrelevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
