Description

Property Controller

Summary/Objective:We are seeking a skilled and experienced Property Controller to join our dynamic real estate property management team. This role will be pivotal in overseeing financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and providing strategic financial guidance to support our growth and success in the real estate industry.

Classification: Exempt; overtime not eligible
HYBRID SCHEDULE- 3 Days in office/ 2 Days work from home
Location: New York, NY 10022

Essential function/Responsibilities: duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including:
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate financial forecasting and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making by identifying trends, opportunities, and risks to optimize financial performance.
  • Conduct targeted financial analyses to guide/support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Design and maintain budgets for properties under management.
  • Develop and implement departmental procedures, processes, and systems to support both immediate needs and long-term objectives.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

  • Assess and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Provide guidance and support to property management teams on financial matters through effective communication.
  • Collaborate with Paths senior management and asset management teams to develop financial strategies that align with organizational goals and objectives.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Advanced degree or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in accounting or financial management, with at least 4 years in residential real estate property management (affordable housing experience preferred).
  • Progressive experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with property management software (Yardi) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership and decisionmaking capabilities with ability to train, manage and motivate staff.


Salary Range: $200,000 - $216,000 plus bonus
