Responsibilities

Full Job Description
The Project & Technical Support Engineer supports Mirion's Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) customer projects through the creation of test plans, test procedures, user's manuals, engineering analyses, and other project documents; participating in all phases of design of custom engineering projects including reviewing drawings for conformance to specification requirements; leading post-production and factory acceptance testing of customer projects; providing follow-on engineering support to customers after delivery, including occasional onsite support for training or commissioning.

Specific Requirements: The Project & Technical Support Engineer shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear (preferred), electrical, mechanical or a related field of instrument engineering.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear radiation characteristics, radiation instrumentation, radiation detectors & associated electronics (analog and digital) and nuclear analysis.
  • Ability to work with low level radioactive material, in accordance with Mirion's Instruments radiation materials license requirements. Practical working experience in a nuclear facility is desirable.
  • Strong computer and digital electronics skills. Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in MCNP and Microshield analyses is very desirable.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must meet the NRC criteria for escorted access into nuclear power plants in the USA.
  • Willing to travel to customer sites (~20% travel time).


Job Scope: Duties may generally be described as providing complete project & technical support for all Radiation Monitoring System (RAMSYS) projects/products.

Typical applications involve:
On-site and off-site customer technical support; Support in generating technical offers, generating test procedures & test reports; conducting acceptance testing; qualification testing; CGI dedication; training (on site & off site); system configuration and installation supervision.

Specific job duties include the following, plus others which may be assigned:

1. RMS project engineering, design and production support by:

  • Reviewing RFQ and assisting in preparing technical proposals
  • Assist in all phases of project negotiation & execution
  • Evaluating the characteristics of the process monitor for specific application
  • Configuring/Modifying RAMSYS monitors to adapt to the customer specifications
  • Establishing test procedures and conducting post-production tests.
  • Generating technical specifications for products and subcontractors.
  • Reviewing production files (drawings & BOM).
  • Generating root cause analysis & failure mode and effect analyses
  • Preparing project compliance matrix


2. Perform acceptance/qualification testing and nuclear calibration by:

  • Writing system test and calibration procedures for specific configurations.
  • Performing system acceptance/qualification test and nuclear calibration.
  • Preparing system test and calibration report.
  • Reporting and resolving any non-conformance, if necessary.


3. Provide installation, training, and technical support by:

  • Providing on-site installation supervision/assistance to customers.
  • Writing system-specific operating instructions/ manuals.
  • Training classes on-site and off-site.
  • Providing on-line response for customer support as needed.
  • Following up with customers to assure maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrating equipment to customers (on-site, in the office and in exhibitions).


4. Perform related activities by:

  • Evaluating the operation/performance of RMS equipment.
  • Writing/revising Commerical Grade Item (CGI) dedication procedures, performing CGI dedication.
  • Reviewing all RAMSYS related technical/marketing materials.
  • Supporting sales and marketing efforts.
  • Provide feedback concerning products (Mirion and competitors) and customer feedback.


5. Maintain and improve work area and technical competence by:

  • Keeping an uncluttered, clean, and organized work area.
  • Completing required training and performance goals successfully.
  • Attending educational seminars, conferences, and workshops, as approved by supervisor.
  • Acquiring in-depth knowledge of Mirion's product portfolio
