THE PROJECT SAFETY MANAGER OPPORTUNITYTurner Construction's Vancouveroffice is seeking a full-time Project Safety Manager. The role requires availability to workon-site or at the head office, Monday to Friday, for 40 hours per week.
The Project Safety Manager will partner with EnvironmentalHealth & Safety (EH&S) and project teams to enforce site compliance with company, EH&S programs, policies, procedures, and regulatoryrequirements on a construction projects within business unit's geographicarea. The Project Safety Manager will also lead training of safe work practicesto educate and inform and guide project teams on management of environmentaland hazardous materials reports and conditions. The will report to the Project EH&S Manager or Project EH&S Director.
As a Project Safety Manager, youwill:
- Lead, direct, and enforce Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S)on single construction project, based on safety staffing requirements asdefined by Headquarters (HQ) EH&S policy.
- Manage time and resourceallocation and provide safety leadership to assigned project.
- Assess projectSafety practices and known and potential safety related exposures, develop andimplement action plans to mitigate risks, and drive changes to improve projectteam safety awareness and activities.
- Communicate requirements for improvingperformance to project leadership and team for adoption and adherence tochanges, using project specific-safety standards, best management practices,and EH&S policies and procedures.
- Understand site safety trends andparticipate in reducing Project Incident Rates by meeting or exceedingestablished Business Unit (BU) goals and manage regulatory exposures to zerocitations.
- Develop training for project site-specific needs to educateproject management, employees, subcontractors, and Turner Trade employees onEnvironmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs, policies, and proceduresand provide training on safe work practices to encourage and enforce adoptionand adherence.
- Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordancewith company and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) policies,Federal, Provincial, and Local regulations, and owner contractual requirements.
- Maintain and enhance working relationships with project staff and subcontractorSafety Representatives.
- Develop and enforce project Safety Program andrelated policies and procedures.
- Identify unsafe actions and conditions andengage with project team to implement immediate corrective actions inaccordance with Turner, Federal, Provincial and Local regulations and ownerrequirements.
- Develop accountability model for project team to ensurepre-planning for activities and tasks for subcontractors and trades.
- Reviewsubcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company andEH&S policies, Federal, Provincial, and Local regulations, and owner contractualrequirements.
- Review quality of Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for projectsubcontractors and Trades based on contractual requirements.
- HoldPreconstruction planning meetings with subcontractors to review site safetyprogram and job hazard analysis for their scope of work and to establish andreview risk mitigation plans.
- Develop safety action items for Preconstructionmeetings and verify subcontractors conduct training as per WorkSafe BC standards.
- Conduct effective worker orientation program for new employees; administer andrecord participation.
- Collaborate with project leadership to create projectspecific safety reports, assess metrics, and make recommendations forimprovement over baseline.
- Ensure timely log of subcontractors' toolboxsafety meetings.
- Conduct and review project team's safety audits, assessrecommended corrective actions, and issue reports of violations and/or unsafepractices for immediate resolution.
- Oversee drug screening program (e.g., pre-employment,post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion) consistent with company and ownerrequirements.
- Develop reports to explain project safety performance andpresent findings at project meetings and to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project leadership to identify with vendors for safetyservices, off-site occupational health facilities, and on-site wellness/medicalservices.

Is this the right role for you:
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited degree program inOccupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, andminimum of 4 years of related construction safety experience, or equivalentcombination of education, training, and experience
- Construction Health SafetyTechnician (CHST) certification required or within 2 years of appointment
- Maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AEDcertifications
- Knowledgeable of Federal, Provincial, and local Environmental Health& Safety regulations
- Working knowledge and consistent application ofsafety and environmental principles and techniques
- Ability to identify knownand potential safety related exposures and lead implementation of correctiveactions
- Familiar with general construction operations
- Demonstrate elementsof leadership from within, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to build teamsand professional relationships
- Professional verbal and written communicationskills and effective presentation delivery skills
- Exceptional organizationalskills with high attention to detail
- Analytical thinking, good judgment, andcomplex problem-solving skills
- Able to work to in non-structured environmentand flexible to prioritize responsibilities for self and others
- Proficientcomputer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, andcollaboration tools, and EH&S applications
- Travel required, access toreliable transportation required
