Role: Project Manager - Mechanical (BAIG)

Location: Toronto, ON

Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000

This Opportunity

Join Smith + Andersen as a Mechanical Project Manager in the BAIG (Building Assessment and Improvements Group) team at our Toronto office and take meaningful ownership of projects from design through construction. You will lead projects end-to-end, balancing scope, schedule, and budget while working closely with clients and project teams to guide each phase effectively. Applying sound professional judgement, you will manage risk and navigate complex challenges while building strong client relationships. What You'll Do
  • Lead end-to-end project delivery, coordinating consultants, vendors, and procurement to achieve scope, schedule, and quality objectives, while partnering with senior leadership to support client meetings and address project issues.
  • Manage project budgets and fees by tracking labour against scope, controlling costs, and optimizing resource allocation, while monitoring financial performance and escalating risks as required.
  • Lead and manage project teams by confirming appropriate staffing, setting expectations, and driving performance, while providing technical and project direction based on client and stakeholder input.
  • Ensure the technical integrity, quality, and completeness of project deliverables produced by the team.
  • Lead construction-phase activities, including site reviews and issue resolution, ensuring alignment with contract documents, design intent, and project objectives.
  • Lead interdisciplinary coordination by planning and facilitating meetings that align internal teams, resolving cross-discipline scope gaps, and support an integrated design.
  • Ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements, and support quality review processes prior to submission.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Present recommendations and communicate technical information clearly to support informed decision-making.


Who You Are:
  • Possess five or more years of project engineering experience in the field of mechanical building services including working on mechanical retrofit projects and mechanical system upgrade projects (chiller plants, boiler plants, ventilation systems, fire protection, plumbing/drainage systems, generator and fuel oil systems).
  • Experience in mechanical assessments, reports and building condition surveys.
  • Experience working as a prime consultant (coordinating consultant teams (electrical, structural etc.), preparation of tender packages (instruction to bidders, bid forms), leading bidders meetings, bid reviews/recommendations, preparation of CCDC documents, preparation of certification of payments, holdback release, change orders, permit applications)
  • Experience with AutoCAD MEP
  • Experience in mentoring and/or leading a team of designers/CAD teams.
  • Professional designation would be considered an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T) or working towards attain it.
  • LEED certification / experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Advanced working knowledge of the provincial building code, ASHRAE, CSA and NFPA standards.
  • Proven the ability to work in an environment driven by project deadlines.
