Position: Project Manager

Location: Columbus, Cincinatti, or Akron, OH

 

The Project Manager will lead and oversee survey projects within our Land Surveying Group. The Project Manager is responsible for the overall success of assigned projects, including schedule, financial performance, quality, and client satisfaction. As a PM you will provide technical and managerial leadership, mentor survey staff, and coordinate field and office activities to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to professional standards.

 

 

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the responsible professional for the successful completion of assigned survey projects or survey components of engineering projects.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules to align with internal and external deadlines.
  • Monitor project performance, including revenue, billings, budgets, and accounts receivable.
  • Track project scope and communicate with the Group Leader and Office Team Leader when changes or contract modifications are required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete project files, documentation, and records.
  • Assist leadership with the preparation of fee proposals and project budgets.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship for Project Surveyors, Staff Surveyors, and Technicians.
  • Coordinate with the Field Team Leader and Crew Chiefs to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate field operations.
  • Work with the Office Team Leader to delegate tasks based on staff skill sets, experience, and availability for efficient project delivery.
  • Perform or assist with record research for boundary survey documentation, including deeds, plats, and easements.
  • Perform or oversee boundary resolutions, including title review and easement plotting.
  • Mentor Staff Surveyors in boundary determination while serving as the signing P.S. responsible for the final resolution.
  • Write legal descriptions and compute closure reports to verify mathematical and legal accuracy.
  • Prepare or oversee deliverables such as ALTA surveys, right-of-way plans, boundary plats, easement exhibits, and subdivision plats.
  • Review survey deliverables, basemaps, surfaces, and control reports prepared by other staff for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review calculations prepared by other staff for accuracy.
  • Submit deliverables to clients, contractors, and government agencies as required.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify hiring needs, assist in candidate selection, and support staff capacity planning.
  • Provide performance feedback and development input for technical staff to the Group Leader and Team Leaders.
  • Monitor staff development, mentor rising professionals, and help identify advancement opportunities for staff.
  • Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads.
  • Communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with clients, team members, and other internal groups.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through timely, responsive, and high-quality service.
  • Represent the firm ethically, courteously, and professionally in all client and public interactions.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful expertise in areas relevant to clients and project delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Registered Professional Surveyor (P.S.) in the state of Ohio (additional state licensure preferred).
  • Minimum of 6+ years of progressive surveying experience, including project management responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads.
  • Strong technical understanding of boundary law, title review, ALTA standards, and construction layout.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and staff assignments.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills with a client-focused mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience managing DOT, municipal, and land development survey projects is preferred. 
  • Background in construction staking management, right-of-way documentation, and public infrastructure is preferred. 
  • Active participation in professional organizations such as OSPS or NSPS is preferred. 
  • Experience with business development or proposal preparation is preferred.
