Job Summary

The Michigan Program on Value Enhancement (MPrOVE) seeks a skilled individual to assist in managing two federal health services research grants that will support pragmatic implementation trials focused on high-value healthcare. The two grants focus on the implementation and testing of evidence-based care treatments, and combined will work with over 20 hospital sites in Michigan to adapt comprehensive, multi-component intervention strategies to be tailored to the context of each site, and ultimately to improve the value of care delivered to patients.

This position will work closely with principal investigators (PIs) to lead project implementation of best practices at hospital sites as well as research activities to assess implementation and impact across participating sites. This will include oversight of the project, organizing study team meetings, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing the study budget, and serving as a primary liaison between PIs, the study team, and key partners including both hospital sites and staff from key partners (MSQC, MVC).

MPrOVE is a multi-faceted strategic initiative designed to design, support, and evaluate innovative projects that test new approaches to measuring and improving value and appropriate care within Michigan Medicine. This position will support the two federal grants described above while being embedded within the MPrOVE team.

This position is grant funded and is term-limited, initially for 3 years, with an option to extend further up to a total of 5 years. Employment beyond this would be pending continued funding.

Supervision Received/Reporting Structure:

This individual will report directly to the grant principal investigations and will receive direct supervision from the MPrOVE Program Manager. In addition to this reporting structure, the role will have an opportunity to collaborate and work closely with members of the MPrOVE team and key partners including MVC and MSQC.

Responsibilities*

50% Project Management: Administration, Quality Improvement/Implementation Coaching, and Support Tasks

• Lead & facilitate multi-disciplinary team meetings that need to accomplish implementation and research activities. These important meetings will facilitate key grant decision-making, which this role will contribute to in partnership with lead PIs.
• Direct communication across the full research team including PIs, Co-Investigators, analytic staff, and key partners.
• Develop, review, and submit all project deliverables, ensuring to very high standards.
• Lead grant reporting, budget management, and funder communication with support from PIs and staff team.
• Independently produce project reports, summaries, charts, and other documentation to outline progress and successes. This will include project planning documentation, follow-up clarification, developing coordination tools, tracking and solving issues with team members, & faculty collaboration.

20% Hospital Site Engagement: Recruitment, Implementation, & Relationship Building (20%)

• Serve as primary hospital site contact relating to recruitment for study participation, implementation of clinical best practices & processes, and evaluation of how the interventions are implemented as well as related clinical outcomes.
• Lead communication related to hospital site recruitment including emails, virtual calls, and in-person site visits. This will be done in partnership & with support from investigators and key stakeholders, with this role serving as the lead contact to answer questions from site leadership and ensure the study involves meaningful hospital participation and engagement.
• Lead implementation and coaching at hospital sites to working towards quality improvement that is aligned with the multi-level, multi-component intervention strategies outlined in the grants, which will lead to uptake of clinical best practices. Each site will go through numerous implementation coaching sessions, and this will include independent work directly with sites as well as the coordination of group activities such as site visits.

20% Study Team Facilitation (20%)

• Oversee the execution of the study by leading participant enrollment, leading site engagement/coaching, and coordinating data collection.
• Overseeing and guiding the research team in developing analyses, writing & reporting.
• Coordinate the development of collaborative academic products and research presentations; there will be opportunities for authorship of academic products.
• Lead IRB submissions and approvals with support from the research team.
• Either lead or assist with qualitative interviews and other research activities as needed.
• Coordinate the development of collaborative academic products.

10% Additional Activities and Tasks as Needed (10%)

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree.
• 5+ years of relevant experience as a project manager or parallel role leading grants, health services research, quality improvement, or related projects. Within that 5+ years, at least 2+ years of this experience should involve working directly with physician faculty, either in clinical operations or health services research.
• Ability to consistently meet deadlines for multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment with competing tasks and priorities.
• Strong skills related to collaboration, active listening, interpersonal communication, meeting facilitation.
• Experience related to research methods or the academic research process such as protocol development, surveys, qualitative interviews, analytic approaches, or being involved in the development of peer-reviewed publications.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint.

Desired Qualifications*

• Master's degree related to healthcare, public health, social sciences, or analytic field.
• Any familiarity with value-based care, research practice partnerships, implementation science, or pragmatic implementation trials.
• Knowledge or experience related to Michigan's Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs).
