Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Project Manager II is responsible for leading complex, multi-million-dollar airport automation projects across North America, with a primary focus on baggage handling systems. This role oversees all aspects of project execution, including contractual, technical, financial and operational responsibilities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with customer requirements.
The successful candidate will bring a strong background in project management, preferably within airport infrastructure, construction or material handling automation. This individual will lead multidisciplinary project teams, manage subcontractors and build effective relationships with customers, consultants and internal stakeholders.
Operating within a fast-paced, global matrix organization, the Project Manager II will balance strategic oversight with hands-on project execution, demonstrate strong financial and commercial acumen, and proactively manage risks and opportunities. Depending on project size and complexity, this role will report to a Project Director or directly oversee smaller projects.
The position is based in Vanderlande's Marietta, Georgia, office and requires regular travel to customer sites and project locations throughout North America.
Key Responsibilities- Project Leadership and Execution: Lead the planning, execution and delivery of complex airport automation projects, ensuring alignment with contractual commitments, customer expectations, project objectives and Vanderlande's standards.
- Financial and Commercial Management: Manage project financial performance, including budgets, cash flow, revenue forecasts, profitability and cost controls. Maintain accountability for project financial results and proactively identify opportunities to improve margins.
- Schedule and Risk Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules, monitor milestones and deliverables, identify potential delays and implement corrective actions to ensure timely project completion.
- Customer and Stakeholder Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, consultants and key stakeholders, building strong relationships and maintaining clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate multidisciplinary project teams, establish clear roles and responsibilities, set priorities and foster a collaborative environment that promotes accountability, problem-solving and successful project delivery.
- Technical and Systems Integration: Maintain oversight of the integrated system design to ensure that baggage handling solutions meet contractual performance requirements, technical specifications and operational expectations.
- Contract and Change Management: Oversee contractual obligations, manage scope changes, evaluate commercial impacts and ensure that project activities remain aligned with agreed contractual terms and applicable regulations.
- Subcontractor Management: Direct and coordinate subcontractors, consultants and external partners, ensuring compliance with project schedules, quality requirements, safety standards and contractual commitments.
- Airport Construction and Site Coordination: Coordinate with airport authorities, general contractors, construction teams and other project stakeholders to support installation, integration, testing and commissioning activities within active airport environments.
- Risk and Opportunity Management: Proactively identify, assess and mitigate project risks while pursuing opportunities to improve project performance, profitability, schedule and customer satisfaction.
- Project Reporting and Governance: Provide regular project status updates, financial forecasts, risk assessments and performance reports to project leadership and relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparency and timely escalation of issues.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Installation, Controls and Life Cycle Services to ensure effective coordination and successful execution across all project phases.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve project management processes, strengthen execution practices and share lessons learned across the Airports organization.
- Perform other duties and support additional project initiatives as assigned.
Basic Qualifications- Minimum of five years of progressive project management experience, demonstrating responsibility for projects of increasing size, complexity and value.
- Experience managing medium-sized projects, preferably valued up to $50 million, within the construction, airport infrastructure or material handling industry.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving multiple disciplines, subcontractors, consultants and stakeholders.
- Strong experience in project scheduling, financial management, risk mitigation and contractual administration.
- Proven ability to lead project teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex project environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% throughout North America, primarily during the workweek.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Computer Science or a related technical field.
- PMP, Professional Engineer (PE) or LEED certification.
- Experience managing airport baggage handling systems or other automated material handling projects.
- Experience with automated control systems, systems integration, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Experience managing projects within active airport environments.
- Experience working for a global organization with a matrixed reporting structure.
- Familiarity with airport construction requirements, permitting processes and applicable building codes.
- Experience with project management software and financial reporting tools.

Compensation and BenefitsThis is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible for an annual salary and participation in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the minimum and maximum starting base pay for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is established in advance and is not subject to candidate negotiation.
