Fermar Paving Limited is a fully integrated general contractor operating in the GTA, executing projects from parking lots for our private clients to municipal roadway widenings and highway interchange replacement for our municipal and provincial partners.

This position is for 1 existing vacancy.

Pay scale: $89,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year

Job Summary

Safety Accountability - Safety First (Above All Else)
The Project Manager holds direct, uncompromised accountability for the physical well-being of all personnel, subcontractors, and the public across assigned project sites. Acting as a visible champion for Fermar's Safety in the Workplace programs, the incumbent must proactively eliminate site hazards, enforce strict compliance with safe operating procedures, and maintain COR certification standards. Operational decisions must always put safety first, ensuring that project schedules or production speeds are never prioritized overachieving a zero-accident workplace.

Quality Accountability - Quality in Our DNA (Never Settle for Less)
The incumbent is fully accountable for the structural integrity and technical compliance of all project deliverables, fulfilling Fermar's mission to build lasting infrastructure. The Project Manager must rigorously monitor work progress, establish strict operational controls, and enforce uncompromised material and workmanship standards. By refusing to settle for subpar results from field crews or subcontractors, the PM ensures that every municipal, MTO, or rail project meets exact specifications and reflects the elite quality benchmark embedded in the company's DNA.

Financial Performance Accountability - Financial Performance & Accountability

Managing project budgets up to $80M, the Project Manager is explicitly accountable for the financial health, cash flow, and overall P&L performance of assigned contracts. The incumbent must demonstrate disciplined stewardship over corporate resources through accurate bi-weekly forecasting, timely progress billing, and proactive claims management. Fulfilling the core promise to honour commitments and achieve results "no matter what," the PM must utilize sound risk mitigation and sharp budget analysis to protect profit margins and drive project success.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Oversight
  • Accountable for ensuring all assigned Projects are efficiently and profitably managed and completed.
  • Provides leadership of Project Management disciplines for assigned Projects.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with Owners and Sub-contractors.
  • Mentor and support Jr. Project Managers, Site Superintendents and Field Engineers involved in the assigned Projects.
  • Ensures Company safe operating procedures are being followed for all Project work.
  • Visibly champions the Company's Safety in the Workplace programs, with a focus on achieving zero accidents/incidents as well as maintaining COR certification.
  • Has signing authority with full P & L responsibilities for assigned Projects.

Planning/Financial
  • Accountable for Scheduling and Pricing of all assigned Projects.
  • Resolves Customer and Sub-contractor disputes as expeditiously as possible.
  • Reviews P & L status and cash flow forecasts for Projects, and adjusts as appropriate.
  • Ensures progress billing is accurate and complete, and submitted on time.
  • Keeps all stakeholders advised on status, progress, and issues.
  • Provides claims management updates.
  • Analyzes budget and pricing and provides feedback to Estimating department.

Operating
  • Develops standards, processes, controls, and measurements for Projects that will ensure consistency and superior results.
  • Monitors progress of work completed against schedules and takes actions as appropriate to ensure on-time completion of projects.
  • Prepares Progress Certificates and ensure invoicing is timely.
  • Quality and quantity bi-weekly forecasting.
  • Presents Project Close Out summaries, informing Management of financial results, deficiencies and opportunities.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree. Civil Engineering preferred.
  • College Diploma (Civil Engineering Technician) or Business Administration
  • MTO Experience is required
  • PMP designation or in progress.
  • Gold Seal certification.
  • Eng. an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in Project Management within the Construction Industry.

Demonstrated Management and Personal Skills
  • High level of personal stress management. Ability to retain focus while addressing challenges, and prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Problem Solving, Critical Thinking and Influencing skills. Able to find solutions to complex issues/challenges and mitigate risks.
  • Able to effectively communicate applying sound judgement in an appropriately assertive manner.
  • Working knowledge of Project Management Software e.g. MS Project.

Travel Requirements

Weekly within GTA.

Physical Environment

Moderate intensity. 60% office. 40% construction site visits. Some exposure to disagreeable conditions (work sites).
