STV is seeking a Project Manager – Design Build (Aviation) for our Buildings group in NYC

Location: New York Metro; hybrid schedule with travel to active airport project sites as required

Position Overview

The Project Manager – Design Build leads day-to-day management of the full multi-discipline project team on design-build aviation projects, overseeing architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and other subdiscipline coordination from a management standpoint alongside the Project Architect, who retains technical authority within the architecture scope. The role manages the workplan, schedule, and cross-discipline coordination for the project, and receives project-level direction from the assigned Project Executive in Charge.

Key Responsibilities

In the design-build delivery environment, this role coordinates directly with the design-build entity’s project executive, superintendent, and trade contractors to align design decisions across all disciplines with a fast-track schedule where design and construction proceed concurrently. The Project Manager – Design Build builds and maintains the workplan for the full project team, sequencing design package releases against procurement and construction milestones across architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and specialty aviation subdisciplines, including those engaged for airfield, security, and FAA-related scope, to keep every discipline’s deliverables synchronized with the broader project schedule.

Despite the Project Manager title, this role does not carry contract, billing, or fee-setting authority; finances, contracts, and tracking of schedule performance and fee burn rate are managed by the Corporate Manager. The Corporate Manager works directly with the Project Manager – Design Build to course-correct the workplan as tracking indicates, and both report progress to the Project Executive in Charge on a regular basis.

Because design-build aviation work compresses design and construction decision-making into overlapping phases, this position requires a Registered Architect who can evaluate code-compliance and constructability implications directly in fast-moving coordination meetings, against active-airport phasing constraints and FAA, TSA, and airport authority requirements that affect design sequencing across all disciplines. Technical authority within each discipline remains with that discipline’s technical lead — the Project Architect for architecture, and the corresponding lead for structural, mechanical, electrical, and other subdisciplines; this role’s licensure supports informed, real-time coordination of the full team rather than independent technical decision-making in any one discipline.

The role schedules and runs project meetings and agendas across all disciplines, serves as the day-to-day client and design-build-entity contact for project management matters, and partners with the Project Architect and other discipline leads to confirm that staffing and production plans remain aligned with the schedule and fee budget.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating directly with a design-build entity’s project executive and trade contractors

  • Aviation or airport-environment project experience, including terminal, airside, or landside facilities
