Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support a wide range of capital improvement and rehabilitation projects at one of our client's facilities at the Port of Los Angeles, with opportunities to work with a talented team across California and Arizona. This role is ideal for a design professional with strong technical judgment, field experience, collaborating with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and safety managers to design complex projects.

Projects may include stormwater and drainage improvements, structural upgrades, building rehabilitation, concrete construction, temporary works and shoring systems, and site civil improvements.

This position will be located at a client site 5 days per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership & Planning: Lead planning, execution, and delivery of capital improvement and rehabilitation projects by defining scope, budget, schedule, risks, and delivery strategies from project initiation through procurement.
  • Design Management & Coordination: Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams (civil, structural, architectural, geotechnical, drainage, utilities) to deliver compliant, constructable designs that integrate permanent works, temporary works, shoring, sequencing, and site constraints.
  • Cost, Schedule & Risk Control: Develop and manage design-phase budgets, schedules, cost estimates, and risk registers; monitor progress, evaluate changes, and implement mitigation measures to maintain alignment with project objectives.
  • Procurement & Contract Development: Lead procurement planning and execution, including development of bid packages, technical specifications, and contract documents; manage bidder coordination, evaluations, and support contractor selection and award.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance Oversight: Ensure quality assurance/quality control of design deliverables; integrate safety-in-design, constructability, regulatory, and permitting requirements into contract documents and procurement processes.
  • Stakeholder & Client Interface: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and agencies; lead coordination meetings, provide clear reporting, and ensure operational and constructability considerations are addressed.
  • Transition to Construction Support :Support contract execution and handoff to construction teams, maintain design intent, and assist with pre-construction clarifications, RFIs, and early construction coordination.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Organizational Capability Building: Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions to build their capabilities. Provide training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
  • Project Scope Definition: Manage the delivery of research, workshops, and other activities to support the specification and agreement of project deliverables.
  • Project Closeout and Handover: Provide appropriate documentation and training to enable successful transition to business as usual. Identify and record lessons learned to inform future project activity.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in design and project management
  • Strong working knowledge of construction contracts, means and methods, and field safety
  • Experience working in active or occupied facilities
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills
  • Ability to work on-site in construction environments

Salary Range - $115,000-$192,000
