  • Develop and communicate design solutions that respond to client goals, project requirements, budget, schedule, and the needs of the community.
  • Apply your advanced architectural knowledge to complex projects and help identify creative, practical solutions.
  • Coordinate architectural work with engineers, consultants, contractors, clients, and other project partners.
  • Oversee technical quality, project documentation, schedules, budgets, and communication.
  • Review plans, specifications, reports, estimates, and calculations to ensure accuracy, quality, and alignment with project goals.
  • Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert, sharing your knowledge with project teams and colleagues.
  • Participate in conceptual design, programming, planning, and other opportunities where your experience can make an impact.
  • Lead QA/QC efforts and cross-discipline coordination to help deliver exceptional work.
  • Communicate directly with contractors, clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies throughout the life of a project.
  • Identify potential project risks and work proactively with leadership and project teams to address them.
  • Represent GMC with professionalism, integrity, and care in every client and community interaction.

We'll Support Your Growth

We're looking for an experienced architect who is ready to lead-but leadership at GMC isn't about having all the answers. It's about sharing what you know, learning from others, and helping the entire team succeed.

In this role, you'll have opportunities to:
  • Mentor and develop emerging architects and other team members.
  • Lead planning, design and delivery of higher education facilities including academic buildings, research facilities, student life spaces, and campus infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and GMC offices to tap into the depth of knowledge within the firm.
  • Work alongside experienced professionals who value your perspective and expertise.
  • Help improve project delivery processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Grow your client leadership and business development skills.
  • Contribute to GMC's Client Services team and broader firm initiatives.
  • Build relationships within your professional community and participate in industry organizations and community service.

The Kind of Leader We're Looking For

You're an experienced architect who enjoys both the work and the people behind the work.

You bring:
  • Strong architectural knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Confidence leading complex projects and collaborating with diverse project teams.
  • A commitment to quality and thoughtful problem-solving.
  • An ability to listen to clients, understand what they need, and turn those needs into successful design solutions.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to share your experience with others.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • An understanding of the ethical responsibility architects have to their clients, their profession, and the public.
  • A desire to contribute to something bigger than an individual project.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-graduation experience preferred.
  • Active professional architectural license required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Where You'll Work

This is primarily an office-based role, with opportunities to get out into the field and stay connected to the projects and people you're serving. Our office building includes a gym and a cafe for those days you need to step away from your desk to exercise or grab a bit to eat.

Travel: Up to 20%, including project site visits, client meetings, professional development, and other project-related activities.

Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, construction environments, pollutants, chemicals, insects, and other site conditions. Appropriate protective clothing and equipment will be provided and required as appropriate.

The role also includes periods of desk and computer work, as well as occasional bending, twisting, crouching, and other physical movements. Employees may occasionally need to lift up to 25 pounds.
