The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join the Life Company Program Management Office to lead some of the company's most strategically important initiatives. As a leader supporting our Actuarial organization, you will drive execution for moderate to complex, enterprise-wide initiatives that influence product pricing, reserving, financial reporting, and risk management capabilities. You will partner with stakeholders across Actuarial, Technology, Product Development, and Finance to deliver solutions that strengthen our competitive advantage and enhance the value we provide to our members.

In this role, you will orchestrate execution across functional domains to ensure program-level initiatives are delivered predictably while balancing scope, cost, risk, quality, and business value within the SAFe operating model. You will facilitate decision-making, dependency resolution, stakeholder alignment, financial stewardship, and proactive risk mitigation.

Job Description

What you'll do:
  • Lead implementation of moderate to complex work efforts, working closely with cross-functional teams to achieve deliverables and milestones within established timeframes.
  • Plans, directs, organizes resources, and coordinates all project activities for development work efforts that accomplish goals and objectives within prescribed program guidelines, timeframes, scope, and budgets.
  • Develops and maintains integrated project plans, key milestones, and delivery roadmaps that include a critical path assessment.
  • Monitors and reports on business objectives, work effort achievements, and key indicators.
  • Facilitates collaboration on creative alternatives to work effort challenges and resolves issues with subject matter experts.
  • Identify and proactively manage risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.
  • Removes obstacles and resolves impediments to ensure successful delivery of business and operational objectives.
  • Provides timely communication and escalation of program risks and blockers to minimize impacts to scope, schedule, quality, and delivery commitments.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders, vendors, and project teams to identify mutually beneficial outcomes for competing priorities and negotiates timelines to ensure objectives are met.
  • Monitors project execution and delivery progress, ensuring incremental business value is realized and effectively communicated to stakeholders and program leadership.
  • Establishes overall cadence for communication with impacted stakeholders and oversees communication planning for underlying work efforts.
  • Identifies and applies best practices and needed process improvement in compliance with expectations and governance frameworks.
  • Adheres to EPMO processes, procedures, controls, standards, tools, and templates (as required).
  • Drives the adoption and sustainment of changes within the organization in compliance with USAA's Change Management methodology.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.


What you have:
  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree (Total of 10 years of experience without bachelor's degree)
  • 6 years of relevant experience in project or program management, including planning, tracking and delivery.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated application of project management methodologies including AGILE, Waterfall, and Hybrid.
  • Extensive experience utilizing Jira, Jira Work Management (JWM), and project management tools.
  • Excels at building strong partnerships and driving alignment towards a common purpose.
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities that influence decision-making and delivery business value.
  • Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity to deliver successful outcomes in a dynamic environment.
  • Broad experience supporting projects with complex deliverables including information technology and dependencies across organizations.
  • In-depth understanding and experience working within risk management policies and procedures.


What sets you apart:
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant industry (e.g., finance, business, actuarial science, data science, information technology, etc.).
  • Experience using AI to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • PMI Certification (preferred).
  • SAFe Certifications (preferred).


Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $93,770 - $179,240

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
