Purpose of Position:

Del Monte Foods is the Foods Division of Fresh Del Monte, a global grower, producer and marketer of fresh, value-added, and shelf-stable produce. Del Monte Foods has a powerful portfolio of brands, including the iconic Del Monte®, Contadina® and S&W®. We are currently seeking a Project Engineering Manager.

The Project Engineering Manager will support the Operations Business Units and Facilities management as directed, leading engineering team members, planning and executing capital projects in support of plant operations, warehouse, and R&D. This position will independently collaborate with cross-functional leaders from Procurement, Marketing, Operations, and R&D to assess business opportunities, understand customer needs, and develop capital cost structures to meet project objectives. Performance is measured on the ability to apply core company values to lead engineers and implement multiple projects on time and in budget while working with other functions as a team.

Accountabilities:

Shipping and Receiving Operations

  • Engineers, designs, and specifies environmental sustainability equipment systems that support sustainability goals (e.g., energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy projects, and waste reduction initiatives.) This may involve coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing budgets and timelines, and overseeing the work of project teams.
  • Provides structured planning, organization and manages tasks to completion within schedule, budget, and scope for all assigned capital projects. Ensure shareholder expectations for results are met.
  • Prepares well written clear studies/reports with accurate capital estimates and savings calculations with sufficient documentation to define project scope.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, distribution and operations for capital reduction and improvements with high economic return.
  • Embraces change and engage others to adopt new processes, solutions and plans while staying focused on goals and results.
  • Proactively finds and promotes business improvement opportunities such as projects with high economic return, quality or process improvement, capacity increase, etc.
  • Able to develop manufacturing site masterplan that incorporates business growth, modernization of plants and cost structure improvement.
  • Applies ergonomic principles to equipment design.
  • Able to visualize and execute proper flow of material and people during factory layout design.
  • Provides layouts of equipment or block flow diagrams to help operations understand floor space requirements and proper ergonomics for cost efficient operations.
  • Selects best equipment or design processes to match throughput.
  • Improves engineering department services and expands its use by operating and service groups.
  • Familiar with Del Monte lean concepts and applies its principles.
  • Improves engineering skills and process knowledge while staying current on the new technology and its applications including energy and food processing technology.
  • Establishes clear plan and course of action to accomplish a specific goal. Improves individual and department credibility by maintaining honesty and engaging in frequent communication with stakeholders.
  • Develops and disseminates appropriate engineering standards that can be used across the company to support standardized equipment selection, safety and meet sanitary construction guidelines.
  • Provides technical competency through the application of sound science, general industrial practice, or engineering-based solutions. Understands current government regulations as it applies to food processing and equipment.
  • Provides direction on departmental budgets and annual capital planning.
  • Trains, enables, and mentors engineering and production staff.


Minimum Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline (Agricultural, Mechanical, Electrical, Food Science, Chemical, Civil Engineering.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • A track record of managing several +1MM capital projects and a progression through multiple roles in the Food Manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills, along with problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Proficient in CAD tools and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and shift schedules as needed.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead others and work independently.
  • Formal project management training or certifications are a plus.
  • Lean certification desired.
  • OSHA certifications desired - safety and utilities.
  • 5+ years of total experience in Food Manufacturing preferred, with minimum of 1 year of project management experience (leading prospects from cradle to grave).
