The Opportunity:

Thermal Pads & Projects is seeking a Project Engineer to support greenfield CSS/SAGD well pad and brownfield facility projects. This individual will be a key member of the project team, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to successfully deliver projects. The successful candidate will provide leadership in applying Canadian Natural's standard well pad designs and managing change initiatives, while ensuring safety, environmental, scope, cost and schedule objectives are achieved. Leveraging a strong understanding of thermal heavy oil economics, along with proven technical, leadership and work ethic strengths, this role offers exposure to larger thermal projects and strong career growth opportunities.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Encourage a strong safety culture by promoting safety awareness in projects and conducting regular field construction visits
  • Build and maintain strong relationships while working with stakeholders including Operations, Facilities, Construction, Safety, Production, Exploit-Development, Technical Safety, Discipline Engineering and Asset Integrity
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to finalize project scoping documents, design basis, engineering studies, execution planning and project charters
  • Develop execution plans, capital budgets, cost estimates, schedules, risk registers and resource plans for project delivery and stage gate approvals
  • Coordinate, review and provide technical and project oversight for engineering, procurement and construction activities from feasibility through construction completion
  • Develop procurement strategies and work closely with supply chain management to managing material orders, suppliers and overall project delivery processes
  • Oversee third-party engineering firms, fabrication contractors and field construction contractors on a day-to-day basis

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and maintaining APEGA P.Eng. registration in good standing
  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant oil and gas experience, including project management (experience in thermal (SAGD and/or CSS) facility operations considered an asset)
  • Execute projects across the full lifecycle, with PMP designation or equivalent considered an asset
  • Work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams while building strong cross-functional relationships and taking initiative in independent work
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities by balancing competing demands, adapting to changing conditions and meeting tight deadlines
  • Apply knowledge of applicable codes and regulations (e.g., OH&S, CSA, CEC, ASME) while utilizing strong analytical, technical, communication and organizational skills
