Responsibilities

  • Assist with budget management, change orders, and cost tracking.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with project schedules.
  • Support testing, inspections, and turnover activities.
  • Participate in quality-control inspections and track deficiencies.

Tutor Perini Corporation is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Newark AirTrain project site at Newark International Airport.

Job Description:

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of a large-scale AirTrain transportation project. The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Owners, Designers, and Trade Contractors to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications and quality standards.

  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents in the execution of all project phases.

  • Coordinate daily activities with owners, consultants, designers, subcontractors, and field personnel.

  • Manage project documentation, correspondence, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and technical reviews.

  • Assist with cost tracking, change orders, budget management, and forecasting activities.

  • Coordinate construction activities associated with station finishes, escalators and vertical transportation systems, terrazzo and curtain wall, architectural and structural interfaces

  • Review and coordinate shop drawings to ensure compliance with contract documents.

  • Assist field teams with resolving design conflicts, constructability issues, and sequencing challenges.

  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to schedule milestones.

  • Support testing, inspections, commissioning, and turnover activities.

  • Monitor construction progress against project schedules.

  • Assist with short-term look-ahead planning and recovery schedules.

  • Identify potential schedule impacts and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure work complies with contract documents, project specifications, building codes, and owner standards.

  • Participate in quality-control inspections and deficiency tracking.

  • Verify completion of punch list items and closeout requirements.

  • Support implementation of project-specific quality management plans.

  • Assist in the implementation of project safety initiatives and corrective actions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or similar.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with a General Contractor.

  • Experience on large-scale transportation, airport, rail, transit, heavy civil, or public infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating: Station architectural finishes, Escalator installations, Terrazzo flooring systems, Curtain wall systems

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Experience managing RFIs, submittals, procurement logs, and project documentation.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple subcontractors and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with MSW Office; familiar with Bluebeam, Procore, Primavera P6 Experience on airport people-mover, AirTrain, rail, transit, or transportation projects.

  • Knowledge of Port Authority, transit agency, FAA, or public-sector construction requirements.

  • Experience with BIM/VDC coordination processes.

  • Familiarity with commissioning and turnover procedures for transportation facilities.

  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
