Full Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Project Engineer involves identifying opportunities to enhance the equipment and facilities of the manufacturing plant and offices. This includes the planning, organizing, executing, and closing out of moderate to large capital projects related to the plant equipment, including all necessary documentation. The position coordinates activities with internal departments, vendors, customers, and management to deliver projects on time and within budget with cradle-to-grave project ownership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans.
  • Determine and develop project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; complete technical studies; prepare cost estimates.
  • Provide timely engineering solutions to problems associated with project assignments.
  • Assist with technical evaluations/project tasks on capital projects from the concept CAR funding stages through procurement, installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts.
  • Develop equipment procedures and documentation for both existing and new equipment installations.
  • Provide technical support and training/education to all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain project records and documentation such as meeting minutes, specifications (URS, FRS, etc.), drawings (P&ID, schematics), change control, etc.
  • Conduct life cycle assessments on mechanical plant and manufacturing equipment. Review and make recommendations to Management related to life cycle repairs or replacement.
  • Travel to remote facilities within a 10-mile radius of the main campus.
  • Domestic and international travel to equipment suppliers (


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 4 years' professional experience in engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in engineering project management from design, procurement, and installation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and methods understanding.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or other modeling software, and Microsoft Office including advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Project (or other project planning and scheduling (Gantt) software).
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced team-oriented, ever-changing manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in problem solving. Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • BSME or BSEE with specialization in machine design or control systems.
  • Six Sigma black or green belt.
  • PMP or other project management certification.
  • Strong knowledge of CFR Part 211 cGMP regulations as applicable to engineering.
  • Knowledge of PLC, servo, and robotic systems, and closed-loop controls.
