Full Job Description
Description

CAMS is seeking a Project Engineer - Mechanical to serve as the Owner's technical authority for mechanical systems associated with power generation and energy infrastructure projects.

Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant.

This role ensures engineering quality, constructability, and technical compliance for mechanical scopes executed by EPC contractors. The Project Engineer - Mechanical bridges detailed engineering, construction execution, and plant operations, ensuring mechanical systems are designed, installed, and commissioned to meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.

The position works closely with the Manager - Major Projects, Project Managers, Project Controls, Project Construction Manager, Field Implementation Managers, and station operations and maintenance personnel to resolve technical issues and manage mechanical risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering & Technical Oversight
  • Review EPC mechanical engineering deliverables for compliance with scope, specifications, codes, and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, applicable OEM requirements).
  • Provide technical oversight for mechanical systems, including piping, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, valves, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Evaluate constructability, access, maintainability, and installation sequencing of mechanical designs.
  • Ensure mechanical designs align with operational, maintenance, and reliability expectations of the facility.

Construction & Field Support
  • Interface with the Project Construction Manager and Field Implementation Managers to resolve mechanical installation issues and field challenges.
  • Support inspections, pressure testing, alignment, and mechanical completion activities.
  • Assist with commissioning readiness, startup planning, and system turnover from a mechanical perspective.
  • Support resolution of RFIs, technical clarifications, and field-initiated design modifications.

Risk, Change & Technical Governance
  • Identify mechanical technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support evaluation of mechanical scope changes, design deviations, and associated cost/schedule impacts.
  • Ensure adherence to CAMS mechanical engineering standards and governance requirements.
  • Support claims avoidance through disciplined technical documentation and timely issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience supporting mechanical engineering and construction on industrial or power generation projects.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors and operating facilities.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design standards, materials, and construction interfaces.
  • Ability to work effectively in field-based environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with power plant balance-of-plant systems, environmental control equipment, or major mechanical retrofits.
  • Experience supporting outages, equipment replacements, and system tie-ins.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
  • Familiarity with outage planning, commissioning support, and startup activities.
